output:noise is a community of artists and musicians based in central/western new york working together to promote improvised experimental, ambient and noise music through live events and the publishing of recorded materials//

it is our mission to create an environment that nurtures creativity and we are continually developing ways in which to educate and inspire our members, giving them the tools they need to push themselves to create music that is unparalleled in genre//

in our endless pursuit to push boundaries, some o:n events have applied creative problems, limitations or themes designed to affect the performers, however, the standard approach to an output:noise session remains relatively simple: arbitrarily divide the participating musicians into groups of three or four, giving each group a 15 minute time slot in which to develop a cohesive, synergic and compelling set. in nearly every case these groups are completely unique and occasionally will contain individuals whom have only met moments prior//

taking part in the o:n process is often a liberating experience for many musicians as it offers them a platform to investigate concepts that the constraints of their usual musical outlets might have previously stifled. because of this, we have seen contributing members emerge from a wide spectrum of musical backgrounds and levels of experience//

Red Sled Choir is songwriter & multi-instrumentalist Matt Gordon of Ithaca, NY. Since 2005, the music has evolved from experimental (and largely instrumental) analogue tape recordings to homespun orchestrated folksongs to it's current incarnation of warm, loop-based electro-analogue collages. The thread through all of this has been a dedication to unique textures, thoughtful melodies and Gordon's earnest playfulness behind any instrument.

In it's current shape, Red Sled Choir crafts soundscapes built on looped casio, glockenspiel, banjo, vocals, live percussion and sampled sounds. Slow, crooning bowstrokes on the banjo conjure lo-fi string quartets that give way to rolling beats and warm basslines where the complexities of layered polyrhythms relax into a unified groove that we are reluctant to let go of. But these aren't mere meditations—this is hardly dabbling—Gordon is orchestrating rich narratives where carefully collected and arranged sounds set the mood and tone for a story that comes in washes of bright, intriguing imagery. 

Informed by the adventurousness of The Books, the warm crackle and lilt of Vespertine-era Bjork, the aching swells of Rachel's and the earnest intimations of modern-day folksingers like Nina Nastasia, Red Sled Choir's music is an invitation to a quiet corner of the world where, though we may have only glimpsed it through trees or between houses before, we want to stay and explore for some time.
