Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you... Logpile (aka "The Sound Of Lockdown 2020"), a veritable, cornucopia of electronic lockdown sounds, discovered during lockdown, on the Cloud of Sound. (I've even shoehorned a couple of my own lockdown releases in here for good measure.) On March 11, 2020 I laid down two new ideas. One became Carpe Diem Amicis, posted here on April 18.  https://soundcloud.com/gary-rees-since-87/carpe-diem-amicis The other idea sat idle for a couple of months before I fleshed it out. I finished it in August and decided to call it Carpe Noctem.  Not a companion piece by theme or style by any means.  It's definitely a darker piece featuring some unmelodic riffs you might say were siezed of the night.  It's my only SC posting so far that I've tagged Experimental.   I'd say "Enjoy" but I suspect a lot of you won't. ;-)

Compassio, from Latin, Compassion: sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.

Eclecticism was first reported to have been practiced by a group of ancient Greek and Roman philosophers who attached themselves to no real system, but selected from existing philosophical beliefs those doctrines that seemed most reasonable to them. Out of this collected material they constructed their new system of philosophy.  The term eclecticism comes from the Greek ἐκλεκτικός (eklektikos), literally "choosing the best".  

The music of "Eklektikos" brings together the instruments and rhythms of many diverse cultures to create a unique world music.

"At the farthest extremities of the electromagnetic spectrum, way beyond the realm of visible light, further even than the mysterious infra-red frequencies, lurk countless, unheard communications from distant worlds....."

"Autumn Equinox" is the result of my overhauling "Radio And Microwave", a tune that I originally put out over a year ago. I've been working on this new version sporadically throughout autumn 2020 - hence the title - even though it's now technically in winter that I've finally got around to finishing it. It's inspired by, well, autumn, which is by some distance my favourite season of the year.

The artwork is an original piece by the enigmatic collage artist, Harl Vind, entitled "Consumed By The Waves".

Autumn Equinox

Inspired by late-night conversations and assembled over many months from disparate musical fragments, Love! Love! Peace! Beauty! is an ode to freedom, tolerance and bliss.

I owe massive credit to Mike B for providing the wonderful electric guitar stylings on this piece and to Jason Ross for sourcing the spoken word sample and the photo image. Brilliant work, gents - I owe you both, big time.

The evocatively named Cold Wold is an area of arable high ground, located roughly between the villages of Millington and Warter in the East Riding of Yorkshire. This relatively unspoilt chalkland region is great for walking, running or whatever else takes your fancy at pretty much any time of the year. I'm constantly inspired by the quiet, gentle landscapes of the Yorkshire Wolds and I only hope I've been able to do them some sort of justice with this relaxed piece of electronica.

Cold Wold

I make lo-fi, melodic, instrumental electronica, conceived, composed and recorded using only a laptop and a digital audio workstation (currently Ableton Live 11).

Due to domestic constraints, I work entirely on headphones so it probably follows that my recordings are best appreciated via the same medium.
