Molotov Cocktail 275 with LXS

NovaMute welcome @dj_anna for the Brazilian producer’s first EP on the seminal imprint. 

"It’s such an honor to be working with @novamutenovamute. Daniel is a legend and a few years ago I’d never even imagined this would ever happen, such are the happy coincidences in life! Now we’re here and Razor EP is done and it all feels a bit surreal."

The first track ‘Razor' was born while playing with her MKS-80 from Roland, an old synth from 1985 and one of ANNA’s favourite. You can hear the fat and juicy sound on the breakdown and ever evolving throughout. The track has already been getting a great reaction when played out in her sets.

Spektre are back on home turf once again, with a sinister two-tracker.

'Carnival Of Souls' sets the scene with the relentless bang of their trademark heavy kick drum. Opening with a dark and eerie atmosphere that appropriately matches the title, the lead synths develop into uplifting euphoria, as the tracks mood transforms in the breakdown.

Second of the two original tracks 'Land Of Strays' has a building tension with fluttering synths. The powerful vocal also lifts the track and provides great contrast with the growling tones of the ominous bassline. Undeniably a peak time cut of dancefloor focused techno, this is a spark to light anyone's fire.

Track three is SAMA's remix of 'Carnival Of Souls' which is a refined version of the original with the addition of his own grinding bass stabs and thinned kick drum to allow more focus on the synth parts. Keeping all of the originals energy, it has all of the same charm but with added depth for those who like things a touch deeper.

Finishing the EP is D-Unity's remix of 'Land Of Strays' and stripping away many of the originals synths it's a percussion lead alternate version. Using the vocal and only short bursts of synths, this darker version has more ferocity to it, and will no doubt be a favourite with those who play a harder style of techno.

Luke Slater is gearing up to release a wicked double EP 'Straight Shooting' under his Planetary Assult Systems moniker via the artist's Mote-Evolver imprint on March 1.

A follow-up to his third full-length album 'Arc Angel’ on the legendary Berlin label Ostgut Ton in 2016, this latest 2x12 offering from Slater pushes his Planetary Assult Systems project further into the darkest recesses of the dancefloor. 

Ahead of the release, the UK techno mastermind has handed over the EP cut 'Bear Bones' - a trippy and elastic excursion piloted by bold percussion and alien transmissions that takes you through the most nefarious sections of hyperspace.

Premiere: Planetary Assault Systems 'Bear Bones'

Fresh off much essential reissues of his seminal debut album for Peacefrog, 'The Electric Funk Machine', and the initially 2017-released 'The Light Years Reworks', which featured an incredible cast of remixers, UK techno mastermind Luke Slater resurfaces as Planetary Assault Systems with a crisp double-package of his signature deep-rolling, hypnotic big-room churners. As its name suggests, 'Straight Shooting' takes no byway to get its point across.

Lifting off with the bleepy, outerspacey thrust of 'Beam Rider', Slater's new outing stings like a straight-out nasty shot of adrenaline right in the ticker. Going for the jugular with its ever impactful mix of pummeling kicks, bloodthirsty bass combers and frenzied electronics blinking like signals freshly emerged from a long drift across cold, hostile wormholes, PAS further proves he navigates in a parallel dimension of his own. Although familiar in essence, the chassis of the tracks remains distinctively unique with cuts like 'Born Anchors' and 'Engage Now' moving away from the calibrated number category, whilst finely blurring the line between explosiveness and self-discipline, which makes them perfect for near-peaktime moments of transition in a set.

Proper muscular bangers are nevertheless the kernel of it all here, and sure to steer the crowd into ecstasy on automatic pilot. If 'Humans Use Concrete' blazes with the wild stomp of Slater's most incisive classics and 'Bear Bones' guides its listener into a trippy excursion across hyperspace loops and alien inner territories, it's 'Give It Up' that harnesses the storm with its playful mix of sliced-and-diced vox fragments, rabid toms, skittish hats and freq-shifting synth whines sure to cut a path of destruction into the club. If an extra-terrestrial invasion of planet Earth was on the agenda, no doubt Slater would be appointed soundtrack composer in chief. Deadly as it gets, 'Straight Shooting' holes it in one.

Luke Slater’s timeless ‘Love’ gets remixed by Burial, Marcel Dettmann, Lucy, Scuba, Silent Servant, and more on Mote-Evolver this May.

Released on Slater’s iconic ‘Freek Funk’ album on NovaMute - one of the most seminal techno albums of the 90s - ‘Love’ finally gets the remix treatment it deserves more than two decades after its initial release.

Leading the charge, Burial makes one of his rare appearances on remix duties and doesn’t disappoint with an atmospheric and mesmerising reimagining with an aesthetic reminiscent of ‘Untrue’. Lucy then reels out a deep-diving techno roller with precision kicks and tantalising melodies. Luke Slater then adopts his The
7th Plain moniker for a collage of sound extending past the 15-minute mark, before upping the energy with a moody reverberating number as Planetary Assault Systems.

Marcel Dettmann provides two takes on ‘Love’; his ‘City’ remix features a cacophony of metallic rhythm, ebbing pads and plenty of swing whilst mantra-like vocals operate throughout, followed by the thudding ‘Black Glove’ remix with its murky tones and rattling effects. Cascading drums and lively trumpets is next in Silent Servant’s upbeat and infectious take, until Scuba concludes the release under his SCB alias with a high-tempo cut fuelled by funk complete with an idyllic breakdown.
