Tui Na Vatu
Legend of the Island Where the Spirit Chose the Brave
The elders of Beqa say that long before the tides knew their rhythm and before the coral raised its walls beneath the sea, the island was shrouded in profound silence. There was no birdsong, no human laughter, only the whisper of a spirit wandering among the trees: Tui Na Vatu, the Guardian of the Living Stone.

Tui Na Vatu was a being of ancient fire. His body glowed like newborn embers, and his footsteps left a trail of heat that made the air tremble. Though powerful, he was alone. He sought a people worthy of his gift, someone capable of walking beside the fire without fear, with respect and unwavering heart.

One day, the first inhabitants arrived in Beqa. They came in long canoes, guided by stars that seemed to know their destiny. They were fishermen, artisans, dreamers. Upon seeing them, the spirit hid among the burning rocks in the island's interior, watching.

For many moons, Tui Na Vatu tested their courage. He kindled embers beneath their feet, made the ground tremble, and sent sparks flying from the branches. But the inhabitants did not flee. Instead, they cared for the land, honored the sea, and shared all they had. The spirit, surprised, decided to reveal itself.

One windless night, it appeared before young Tavake, the most curious and courageous of the village. Its light illuminated the beach like a sunrise. Tavake did not back down. He bowed respectfully and waited.

"I have sought steadfast hearts..." said Tui Na Vatu. "If you pledge loyalty to the island and its spirit, I will bestow upon you a gift no other people will ever know."

Tavake accepted without hesitation. Not out of ambition, but out of love for his people.

Then the spirit extended its fiery hand and touched the young man's forehead. The fire didn't burn: it became a warm pulse that coursed through his body. When Tavake opened his eyes, he knew something had changed forever.

At dawn, Tui Na Vatu gathered the entire village and showed them a bed of incandescent stones. The air vibrated, the rocks shone like tiny suns. Tavake stepped forward and walked across them without being harmed. Each step was a renewed pact between the spirit and his people.

From then on, the people of Beqa became the fire walkers. They didn't do it to boast, but to remember their ancestral commitment: to protect the island, honor their ancestors, and keep the flame of Tui Na Vatu alive.

Genesis Does is a playlist of video game remixes done in the style of the SEGA Genesis/Megadrive sound-chip. Of course, what you hear is not exactly one-to-one with the sound-chip's limits, and will generally surpass what it can actually do.

This playlist will be updated periodically with new remixes as they are finished. All remixes are created by ear.

I love this tune. It just encapsulates the jolly feeling of winter so well, the the melody is incredibly catchy. Doing a remix of it was really fun, and I'm happy with how it came out.

This is a version of the Intro Theme from Grunty's Revenge which uses instruments from Banjo-Kazooie & Banjo-Tooie! Rather than using soundfonts created from samples extracted from the game - I instead put this together by sequencing a MIDI version of the song, and individually importing the tracks into the Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie ROMs using an amazing bit of software called the "N64 MIDI Tool", which was written by SubDrag. I then recorded the tracks from the hacked ROMs using Project64, and composited them. So, hopefully this is a relatively authentic imagining of what it would have sounded like if Grunty's Revenge was an N64 game!

One franchise we want to start to explore is F-Zero! Here is a SynthWave remix of Big Blue from F-Zero! Like myself, I am sure you have heard the F Zero Big Blue track many times on Melee and Smash Ultimate. It's one of our favorites, so I knew I wanted an F Zero Remix!
