~Octobuse is an international avant-pop elecronic music collaboration between Mita Lupa of Portland, Oregon and Mark Corrin (formerly Shirokuma) of Manchester, England. 
Featured in The Guardian's music blog, Nov. 29, 2013, as a band to pay attention to. Cheers to that!! 

The music that Octobuse creates is playful and stylistically varied, characterized by female/male vocal interplay, surrealist "flash fiction" lyrics, catchy melodies and short, poppy songs. Some shared musical influences on the project include Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson, Tom Waits, Beck, Delia Derbyshire, medieval music, psychedelia, pop and hip hop.  

In his previous work as Shirokuma, Mark's music has been widely acclaimed by many including the NME, DJ Magazine and BBC radio, and he has been broadcast by the likes of John Peel, Steve Lamacq, Rob Da Bank and FloMotion’s Nick Luscombe. He has recorded, remixed and contributed to a prolific number of releases and has also collaborated with a variety of notable artists including Can's Damo Suzuki, Max Tundra and Andy Votel. Mark is also very involved in the Manchester music scene, and has co-run club nights and gigs at notable venues such as The Lass O Gowrie (recently voted best pub in the UK by the BBC).  

Mita Lupa has a rich and varied career as a songwriter, composer, award-winning theatrical sound designer, music technology teacher, film editor, live engineer and published writer. She has worked on theatrical productions in several US states and is also a prolific painter. A multi-instrumentalist and a charismatic vocalist, Mita is also in her element with improvisational playing and spontaneous composition. She is a highly experienced and constantly progressive artist and producer who enjoys recording and innovating in a wide variety of styles. 

The project's debut single "Octobuse" was played as part of Manchester's Delia Derbyshire Day in January 2013, a multi-media event which also showcased modern artists influenced by her work. The event was widely publicised by BBC Radio 4, The Guardian and Manchester Evening News and was a sell out success. Octobuse are currently working on their debut album which will be released later this year.

Playing and creating some music, drawing cartoons and baking bread. That's what I like to do!
I play guitar and mandolin. I used to play sitar and learn Hindustani music - but not anymore - so you might hear some influence in my music, especially the pieces with mandolin. I don't play accordion, despite my profile photo. I wish I could pay it though, and many other instruments.
