Like the morning sun penetrating a Winter sky, a shimmering frost flecks the brightness of “Message to Nowhere”. The four tracker showcases the sound of Ruben Benabou’s Hyperstellar nom de plume, a sound that draws inspiration from sci-fi soundtracks and the warmer currents of electro. Refracted bleeps introduce the title piece, shorn beats cutting through glowing synthlines as the EP takes flight. Tight terse drum patterns are the launchpad from which melodies sail and swoop in “Words in a Void”, bittersweet strings and warbling pads bending and shifting above juddering basslines. Fellow Frenchman, and all-round electro virtuoso, The Hacker remixes “Message to Nowhere”. Pulling the track toward the centre of the floor, scissoring snares slice through echoing notes and silken shrouds in this machine funk remake. Temperatures rise for the close. Acidité is a track I produced during a very quick session in my Marseilles studio in late 2023. I think the idea was to produce dance tracks that would have a certain harshness to them and sound sort of unpolished. I realize that is what I end up liking the most when it comes to dance music - when it sounds as being straight out of the home studio, with very little means and maybe some « mistakes » left here and there for the sake of it. Acidité revolves around 3 main ingredients - a Behringer TD3 riff (the Behringer cheap reincarnation of the legendary TB303), a conga loop and an iconic JB funk stab sample. It segues midway into a more trancey and motoric tunnel like techno track, driven by a « lately bass » straight line.

DGTL039: The Populists - 'Acidité' (radio edit)

Fred Ventura and Rafał Lachmirowicz, aka Also Playable Mono, have teamed up, All We Need being the pairing’s audio vision of italo disco. Steady kicks and cascading cowbells pave the way for an infectious synthline before a vocoder-enveloped Ventura smoulders with a burning intensity. Bold chords and pulsating rhythms are at the robotic heart of “System Breakdown On Wikileaks”. Bombastic and brilliant, this electrified disco dreadnaught swings with the power of a wrecking ball; a power that only amplifies the track’s impacting message of our very civilisation’s future. Scaling notes spiral ever higher in the addictive groove of “In The Night”, A.P.Mono’s computerised words adopting the mantle of his machines. Circling samples introduce “The News”. Rhythms are clean and tight, snapping at the tails of soaring synthwork with Ventura’s smoky social commentary, coupled with the silken and sonorous Chelsea Muller, offering something better for us all.

Las Perras EP serves as the perfect amuse bouche for her incredible debut album IBZALIEN, which drops on 6th June. Greta Levska hand picks the best sounds from the Historica Electronica, pulls apart their building blocks and makes something even better, for your delectation.

Titular track Las Perras is a prime example. Featuring Third Culture (Sasha Robotti and Sian’s new project), Las Perras (The Bitches) is nothing short of spectacular. Imagine if Miss Kittin was Spanish and the guest vocalist with Kraftwerk. Now listen to Las Perras. The track starts with a gorgeous 303- style kick pattern, joined with a robotic Ralf Hutter bass synth. By the time you hear the seductive Spanish vocals, heads turn around you, asking ‘Wow! What is this?’ and people scramble to find a track ID. Job done? No way. Greta has more to give. A higher-state-build-up increases the intensity, the drums evolve into a breakbeat, blissed out synth patterns fill the air and a deep Pontiac firebird bass revs its engines and drives back to Kraftwerk body shop for more robotic reconstruction.

The second track, Mr Funk has that awesome, stripped back sound reminiscent of turn-of-the millennium classics from the likes of The Hacker or Peaches. The filthiest distorted bass, thwacking claps that sound like a whip on a snare drum drag you by the leash onto the grimy dance floor. Greta’s euphoric, arpeggiated keyboards lift you to your feet, then lavish layers of synth put you in a trance as lazers cut through the machine fog around you. In the church of Mr Funk, there is only one mantra. “Keep Funky.”

Why not book your trip to Ibiza now and see one of Greta Levska’s sublime DJ sets. 2024 saw incredible parties Pikes, Destino, Club Chinois, and Amnesia. You won’t regret it. 2024 was huge for her. 2025 is going to be massive.

Lois “Temptation” feat. Mockoff is a cerebral, slow-burning exploration of desire and restraint, rooted in the hypnotic framework of classic Chicago house. With its stripped-back groove, ghostly vocal textures by Mockoff, and deep, syncopated low frequencies, the track channels the raw emotional minimalism of early warehouse cuts while pushing into more introspective, modern territory.
