We are happy to introduce to you our first female artist for the BeYond podcast series. Bringing in the balance of what is much needed in our present fields right now. The strong dark depths of the feminine - cracking us open, fractal after fractal birthing the new, alongside the integral motherly energy of holding and growth.

As the sun returns with its ardent warmth, Barbarella welcomes us into the moment, where the present and powerfully nourishing female energy brings you closer to self, expansion and your natural curiosity.

Barbarella drops you into the hypnotic space of Spanda – the sanskrit word for divine vibration. Taking you on a journey of exploring the layers that have been dormant throughout the darkness of winter, tenderly nudging your courageous heart to keep diving. Whispers call you deeper as they welcome your movement through the melodic song of the woman - enchantingly entwining your soul to the great mother we collectively dance upon and to the wonders and profundity of life.

There are moments in our lives where words alone cannot hold or express the magic and mysticism we are gifted with here on Earth. So we softly suggest that you surrender to Barbarellas narrative music, opening this book of sounds and write the story in which you wish to transpose through.

LA FEMME MYSTIFIÉE:
what it means to be a woman for you?

FREDERIKA:
As a woman, I like to assume myself as I am, with my faults and my qualities, but the most important thing for me is to be considered as the equal of the man. And even if my sisters have been fighting for the equality of women for years, there is still a divide and inequalities and it is a daily fight to fight against the ideas born from patriarchy. 

On the electronic scene, women are much less present than men and have often been very sexualized. Fortunately the thinking is starting to change, and more and more festivals, labels,... are trying to be fair and book as many women as men.

What I think is most important in this field is to be considered as an artist and to be recognized for my talent.

A Balance Dilemma
For me always have being all about Balance, life and music. A balance between two excesses: too much or too little. Not too hard nor chill. Between the organic and the inorganic.

Because in between recklessness and cowardice, there is courage, in between secrecy and loquacity, there is honesty. In between impulsiveness and indecisiveness, there is self-control.

But have someone achieved something extraordinary in the path of Balance? Maybe balance is the path to average, the space between extraordinary and ordinary. Giving equal attention to eight things makes you equally average at eight things. Should we follow balance?

Don Mescal, who djs for more than 20 years now, can be seen as magician of musical diversity, a character full of energy & love, who has a huge repertoire of songs that will catch your senses and awakens your emotions. Inspired by folkloric multiculturalism, he loves to experiment with the traditions of world music and knows how to transfer it into a modern perspective to brew an electronic-music-elixir with that extra drop of mescal flavor.

Furthermore Don Mescal is the co-founder of Cosmovision Records, a new music label and collective created by a mix of immigrants from Latin America, Europe and locals from Canada, based in Montréal, working together in a collaborative and inter-dependent way through a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary artistic platform, believing in the value of different cultures, art and the universe itself.
