For a newly emergent producer, Ansome's sound is hugely confident. Inspired by a raw and urban UK techno lineage, his drums are heavyweight, his percussion fierce and his synths full blooded. All in all that makes for music that grabs your attention and drags you along for an enthralling ride. Littered with his own field recordings, it can be variously eerie or boisterous, but its uncompromising stuff of the sort anyone from Perc to Karenn would be proud.

With some vinyl releases this year, like SLAM001 and Penny & Pound, this British producer become more and more populair.

Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen release exclusive 12” for Record Store Day 2015 featuring remixes by Dauwd and Lubomyr Melnyk

After releasing their debut album of unique Nordic electronic sounds in late 2014, Kiasmos – made up of Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen – return with a special 3-track EP featuring album highlight ‘Looped’ and remixes of album tracks ‘Held’ and ‘Burnt’.

Made in Ólafur’s newly build studio in Reykjavík, Iceland, the title track ‘Looped’ was recorded using acoustic instruments next to a variety of synthesizers, drum machines and tape delays. It also features Ólafur performing on the grand piano, producing an ambient, textured sound, which makes it a perfect home listen and equally danceable tune.

UK electronic producer Dauwd (Kompakt/Ghostly), who Kiasmos specially selected to perform at their sold out London album release show as well as remix their track, has crafted a chilled club version of ‘Held’. Whilst Ukrainian pianist and fellow Erased Tapes artist Lubomyr Melnyk has created a unique re-interpretation of ‘Burnt’ in his signature “Continuous Music” mode, performed on two pianos.

 “It was an honour to be asked to remix an artist for Erased Tapes. Both the label and the artists I admire. And it was such a pleasure to work with the source material from Kiasmos. The parts had so much texture and warmth that working with them in my own space was quite inspiring.  I tried to respond impulsively to the parts and allow anything to happen. I think I achieved something with a balance of the original vibe and looking in another direction.” – Dauwd

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:		

Kiasmos is made up of Icelandic BAFTA-winning composer Ólafur Arnalds, known for his unique blend of minimal piano and string compositions with electronic sounds, and Janus Rasmussen from the Faroe Islands, known as the mastermind of the electro-pop outfit Bloodgroup. Based in Reykjavík, Arnalds used to work as a sound engineer, often for Rasmussen's other projects, where the two musicians discovered their common love for minimal, experimental music.

One of Brooklyn's finest pilots a thoughtfully diverse journey to the dancefloor and back.

New York City's techno scene has been something of a cause célèbre over the past few years, with intriguing new artists and labels seemingly popping up on a daily basis. However, it's not just fresh-faced transplants that are getting into the act; a few died-in-the wool New Yorkers have also been making some serious waves, and Anthony Parasole is right at the top of that list. The Brooklyn native has been DJing since his teen years, and came up alongside guys like Levon Vincent, with whom he would later run the Deconstruct label. These days, however, most of his focus is on his own imprint, The Corner, along with the fabled Ostgut Ton. The Berlin outpost issued his most recent record, the My Block EP, and has gotten to know Parasole quite well in recent years, as he holds down a residency at Berghain and spends what seems to be an increasing amount of time in the German capital. Back home in New York, he's also been made a resident at Output, which means that he's become a staple DJ at highly esteemed clubs on both sides of the Atlantic. He seems poised for a major breakthrough in 2015, which leads us to believe that now is the perfect time to have him put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast series.

In the DJ booth, Parasole is probably best known for his ability to serve up a hard-charging techno assault, but those who have seen him play know that he's capable of so much more. He certainly flexes his diversity here, as the 73-minute session moves between long patches of foreboading, almost beatless soundscapes and a thudding techno pulse. Parasole also throws in the occasional musical curveball, which explains how a mix that's largely centered around techno could begin with Black Sabbath and end with Flying Lotus. It's an unusual combination, but it unquestionably works, and results in a podcast that's perhaps just as suitable for relaxed home listening as it is for even an imagined wild night on the dancefloor. Admittedly, those two poles sit quite far apart on the musical spectrum, yet Parasole appears to have mastered them both.

“I Don’t Know Where” - The intro catches listeners from the first note, making you lean in to hear more from small sounds teasing through a steady drum beat that deepens as it charges forward. We are then taken into some strange, new territory here, with sound effects that sound like steel slicing through the air and beats that are never predictable. Tandem is not the goal here, more of a partnership of different beats that only add to a successful and very repeatable track.

Essen's own Glenn Astro has called his first album Throwback, and the name is at once a perfect fit and not nearly the extent of the story. On the one hand, Astro has filled the double-LP with a wealth of old-school gestures and textures—the warm whoosh of analog synths, the rattle of Rhodes tines and the sizzle of jazzy drums, all held together by the comforting glue of tape hiss and vinyl crackle. If you're used to the clean sonic lines and stylistic streamlining of so much contemporary house music, then Throwback is sure to feel less like a record you just pulled out of plastic wrap than a well-seasoned one salvaged from a flea market or unfinished basement.

And yet like so many Tartelet releases—particularly the label's last two full-lengths, Max Graef's Rivers of the Red Planet and Uffe's Radio Days—it feels fresh and keenly contemporary no matter how vintage the fabric. Rather than throw back to any one moment, he's given us a collage of styles that's quite literally timeless. Astro makes brilliant work of his influences, drawing on hip-hop, house, funk and soul in such equal measure that it's hard to argue that one impulse dominates the other. The sound certainly flirts with the dance floor, with Astro applying high-pressure deep house pads on the title cut, gliding on shimmering keys for "One For Viktor," and taking us on a vibraphone-fueled workout with "Kilometer Disco," one of a pair of cuts featuring Max Graef. But Astro obviously relishes the time he spends on the sidelines absorbing the atmosphere, or at home head-nodding to the dustiest corners of his record collection. For every house beat you hear, you'll also dip into juicy, 90’s-style beat science, toasty ambience and buttery chord progressions. Expertly paced but never hustling you along, Throwback begs to be heard as a whole but explored at your own easy pace—a record for hazy mornings-after, vibey nights in and endless summer afternoons.
