Terje Nicolaisen (b. 1964) is a Norwegian artist who playfully incorporates music as both subject matter and conceptual engine in his practice. His work frequently features fictional bands, invented record releases, improvised concerts, lyrics, album covers, and performative setups that mimic — while simultaneously critiquing — the aesthetics and mythologies of music culture. Rather than treating music primarily as sound, Nicolaisen uses it as a social and cultural system he can disrupt, parody, and celebrate. The result is a humorous, incisive, and deeply personal body of work in which the boundaries between art, performance, and music delightfully dissolve.
