My next guest on Yax Invites is Berlin based artist Nona, who is the co-founder and resident at https://soundcloud.com/re_flect, and is widely known for mixing fast paced techno with elements of hypnotic sounds and pulsating grooves in his sets.

Since there are no limits to the length of the sets in this wonderful mix series and extended mixes are appreciated, I took this opportunity to record the longest mix ever published by me. Instead of the usual 3 players, this time I played with four and did even more layering and blending of several tracks than normally. 

Because I wanted to tell a kind of developing story, I started fast yet slower than usual and reached my habitual tempo just after 1.5 hours. In addition, this mix contains a track selection that differs more or less clearly from my previous mixes. The focus here lays on a variety of deep, bleeping and hypnotic sounds, atmospheric tracks as well as strongly raw & percussive, driving & minimalist rhythms. Every now and then even a trance or electro gem stands out. The result is a great variety of sounds and rhythms which is almost hardly remarkable due to the length of the mix. 

On top of that, this mix is the first one ever that contains a production of my own! Enjoy!

Sanna Mun is an interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin. Her multifaceted sound ranges from ambient to raw and classic techno, with a sense for organically evolving motifs that drive her DJ and live sets. Sanna’s approach to music is influenced by her background in archaeology and esotericism, which she incorporates into her productions and the concept behind her label, Katabasis. Her debut releases on Ø [Phase]’s Modwerks label and Clone’s Repetitive Rhythm Research imprint have already garnered international support and acclaim.

Set the Mood with (f)unknown!

For the 9th episode in the series, I've invited (f)unknown to showcase their vision of an opening set. (f)unknown believes that an opening set shouldn't be too dull, and they clearly demonstrate this in their mix. I personally love the opening track, and from there they build with rolling, deep, and sometimes hypnotic tracks, ensuring the set is engaging and perfectly sets the mood for what's to come by infusing energy in just the right way. (fu)nknown says: "For us, a perfect opening set warms you up and makes you eager for the sets that follow, but it should never be boring. This is challenging because an opening set shouldn't be too high-energy right away."

(f)unknown is a DJ and producer duo from Gouda. Ruben and Tobias started this duo because they shared a passion for music that perfectly complemented each other. This passion spans multiple genres, which sometimes makes choosing tracks difficult. However, blending these genres creates a unique sound, which you can experience in this set: techno, rolling, groovy with house elements.

Their favorite moment in the set is around 35:30. Here, they mix in a breakbeat-like track by Rene Wise, breaking up the set and then ramping up both the BPM and the energy.

With gigs at Techno Tuin Festival and club Puin, they are steadily making a name for themselves, and rightfully so! I'm thrilled to share their sound with you. Let us know what you think, and don't forget to dance and enjoy!

Nacido en 1987 en el norte de Francia, François ha estado inmerso en la música electrónica desde muy joven.
Su debut en los controles tuvo lugar en 2001, y fue bastante natural que se pasara a la composición en 2005.
