Since Technique first brought this Aussie producer to the world's attention, he's been unstoppable. His tracks have been dropped on Kiss, Radio 1, 1Xtra and wherever else good bass is purveyed to discerning listeners. He's been DJing alongside names like Matrix & Futurebound, Sigma and Drumsound & Bassline Smith. And as if that wasn't enough, he's back to increase the levels even further.

“Backfire” opens up into immediate action-flick energy, delivering epic orchestral tension backed with an insistent synthetic pulse. Spectrem melds finely-manipulated real-instrument samples with heavyweight programmed sounds to create an ultra-modern cinematic blockbuster of a tune. All that underpinned with barb-sharp, tightly-woven beats delivers a piece of work that's going to light up sets at any time of night.

Then we're on the “Run”. This is a hands-in-the-air callback to the nineties, showing that Spectrem knows, understands and respects the roots of this music. With a percussion line that'll have heads playing Spot the Break, and a vocal hook that's pure euphoria, this is no-compromise jungle music. Providing a balance between dancefloor toughness in the low end and soulful sparkle in the melodies, this is one to draw for when its time to transition between styles.

The name Legion & Logam has resonated since their first output on the Program imprint. With vocal roller ‘House of Cards’ being picked up by some of the dance world’s leading tastemakers, it saw the production trio ascend to a very critical point in their career. And the glass ceiling has been broken; it was only apt for such rising stalwarts to be given the monumental 25th release in the label’s discography.

‘Holding On’ and ‘Afterthought’ also follow their exclusive signing to Ram Records, the sister label who engendered Program and who’ve stood the test of time. Although, it was only a matter of time before the artists were taken in by a label of that calibre.

You’re taken into A-side ‘Holding on’ by the soulful talent of Micah Freeman, guiding you through its beautiful note arpeggios and clicking percussion. Weaving amongst the atmospheric strum of guitar and climatic synth, it’s perfectly refined and demonstrates exactly why they were exclusively signed to the Ram imprint.

Following on in quick procession is ‘Afterthought’. Pounding against an ethereal, humanistic sample, there’s an underlay of subs which slowly builds and brays between breaks. They masterfully combine impact with a tightly woven composition; fiercely intricate yet without lacking substance, it pedestals the experience which each party brings to the table.

So, here’s to another release which sees Legion & Logam firmly on the radar for years to come. Their talent was already unbridled. However, combining this with one of the biggest and most revered drum & bass labels across the globe, they’re sure to become unstoppable.
