Omni Music welcomes the great talent of Indigo Virus known for his excellent work on 36 Hertz and Codename:RCRDS. He gives Omni fans a real treat with 4 tracks of immensely deep Artcore Atmospheric Jungle. The opener Ignorance is Bliss skillfully balances chopped breaks and serene melodics while easily retaining that dancefloor edge. Runaway Heaps more beautifully chopped breaks at the listener as swirls of pads and a crescendo of bass stabs thunder the track forward effortlessly. The title track 'Fractured Light' begins with delicate arpeggios and drifting pads before rolling breaks create another breakbeat led masterpiece. The EP ends on The Outer Surfaces, a sublime arpeggio-driven journey through joyous realms that perfectly replicate the deep mid 90's sound. This is a superb EP and we can't wait to hear more from this great artist.

In the moment, this live show turned into a spontaneous Al Pack tribute session. I'd originally intended to play a couple of his beats, but when I typed 'Al Pack' into Serato, too many great tracks of his popped up! So I decided to go the whole hog and play Al's work for the remainder of the show. In doing so it conjured many fond memories of playing his tunes live on Bassdrive across the last 14 years.
I didn't know Al personally, but I certainly knew and loved his music. As Spim and many have said, he was the king of D&B bootlegs. Al knew Soul Music! and so he chose great Neo-Soul, R&B & Hip Hop jams to rework. But his talents went far beyond that; with his own original productions and collaborations. I chose to play many of his SoundCloud available tracks that had his name on, but I think several of his bootleg mixes may have been released under the anonymous 'Unknown Artist' moniker too - for obvious reasons. Anyway, I hope my show honours Al Pack's vibe and that my selection represents his legacy suitably.

On a personal level, yesterday's show was one of those, were I was enjoying the usual escapism of playing new tracks, but I wasn't doing much talking on the mic. Since the turn of the year, I've been experiencing SAD / blue Monday vibes. The passing of Al Pack also had an affect on my state of mind. However, I must say that mixing Al's music picked me up massively! Albeit in a bitter-sweet fashion. Again, this goes to show the therapeutic power of feeling music. It was also a privilege to share this moment with Bassdrive's listeners.
RIP Al Pack. As a D&B community, our thoughts are with his family and friends.
