Since earlier this millennium the technological terrorist known as Raiden has both shaped and championed computer language, particularly the drum & bass dialect. Giving voice to the machines and their madness, for years he has ministered their gospel across the globe, replicating their code, decimating dancefloors and attracting acolytes wherever he spreads the word.
Soon the music was so in demand and the movement so strong he had enough supply to launch a label of his own, and in 2005 Raiden unleashed Offkey Recordings. It wasn’t long before others began to learn to speak the language to his standard, and Raiden was joined by like minded artists.
Representing aurally what can be seen – and felt – in Brutalist architecture, decaying industry and the entropy of urban jungles, Offkey Recordings combines concrete and computer chips to offer complex and oft cacophonic compositions. Modern man and machine are already inextricably linked, and Raiden and his cold metal men unashamedly celebrate this union.
Fast forward to the present and Offkey Recordings is closing in on its twentieth release, and welcomes a sonic sibling into the world in the form of Voodoo Music. There’s no need for any rivalry tho, as while these two imprints are basically polar opposites, they will exist in harmony, like the yin and yang of the Tao. Subsequently, Offkey will continue to deliver digital discourse to its legion of loyal followers, as its impending output will attest.
