Jon & Hugh - Another View (STW Premiere)

Manchester producer Bobby Ganoush gets his hands on New Order’s greatest hits. The result: two club-ready reworks you didn’t know you needed, until now. 

Taking on two tracks from one of the most critically acclaimed and influential bands of the 1980s is no easy feat. But, with over 30 years experience in the dance music industry, Bobby Ganoush delivers a pair of punchy, high octane tracks; both of which have been tackled with the utmost respect, handled with an attentive ear and never lose the essence of the seminal originals. 

With a musical history producing under a number of different monikers, previously remixing The Clash and Bob Marley, whilst engineering and mastering tracks for a range of artists, Bobby Ganoush is no stranger to the needs of a dancefloor, something which is reiterated with this release. 

His take on ‘True Faith’ doesn’t stray too far away from the quintessential eighties sound, beginning with an elongated, synth-heavy instrumental intro, we’re then introduced to Bernard Sumner’s instantly recognisable voice as the track begins to peak. This rework uses the best bits of the Shep Pettibone vocal and dub mixes, alongside explosive percussion and a reinforced bottom end to give it more weight, whilst using just three verses. This setup undoubtedly lends itself more to a club - with a steady pace and a warmth of familiarity, this track will ensure a hands-in-the-air moment on many a night out.

Bobby Ganoush’s rework of New Order’s biggest track is of a similar considerate vein. Opening with extended elements from Kraftwerk’s ‘Uranium’ (which was originally sampled for ‘Blue Monday’) alongside Kraftwerk’s ‘Numbers’, he adds even more substance before blazing into the fundamental ingredients of the original, iconic track. The unmistakable “How does it feel?” echos as tumbling drums and broken beats take the lead, before it’s ignited again with signature synths. With Bobby Ganoush's deep rooted association with Manchester's dance scene, it’s no surprise he’s taken a standout approach to reimagining one of the Hacienda's most iconic records.

"Fresh off a run of vinyl releases supported by legends of the scene like Gerd Janson, Todd Edwards, Move D and DJ Sprinkles, Skylax Records are mighty proud to present Sweden’s Lukas Lyrestam for our 150th release.
“When 2 Bodies Become 1” treads a fine line between raucous deep-house, balearic blues and straight-up sexy music. The opener “Raw Loop” channels classic Pepe Braddock vibes while “Moving Day” sounds like it could’ve come from the sonic experiments of a certain 90s house producer who loves to play keyboards. Lukas is a musician and singer first, which really shows on the flip side of the record – something which Mano Le Tough & Jimpster were very happy to support on a recent release for Clouded House.“Strange Beast” marries off-kilter chorus-kissed guitar riffs with a driving four-to-the floor arrangement while “2 Bodies Become 1” takes a step further away from house music to combine vintage new-order textures and shuffling deep-house. Lukas also builds digital synthesizers in his spare time, something which must’ve come in handy for “Bike Ride With U” an italo-banger closing out the record and sporting a very rubbery bassline. We are super happy to add yet another great house 12-inch to our catalogue and remember, stay underground, it pays!"

Each door was etched with a title, presumably the meant something important to the workers and staff who walked the halls each day. Perhaps they offered a sense of grand superiority to those who were lucky enough to have an engraved front. It was all just a fancy bunch of bureaucratic rubbish which meant nothing beyond the concrete walls of the towering office block. Soon he would take a light to this place, burn it all to the ground and hope for the best. For now he simply knocked upon another oak coated door and sighed...

Rossum Universal Tracks is a project which we have featured prominently on Ransom Note previously. They now appear with a new EP for Seb Wildblood's record label all my thoughts.
