BS1 & John Roman - Dumbbell

Belgian duo @GoldFFinch continue Turbo’s latest series with three prime cuts of springy warehouse thumpers.

Four years into their production career, these two young Brussels-based producers have already put out a dozen releases, and in the process gained the support of the likes of Loco Dice, Phil Kieran, Sinden, Djedjotronic, Mary Anne Hobbs, Claude Von Stroke, and Jackmaster. Their sound has remained consistent while slowly evolving, shifting deeper into the realm of pure techno, achieving terrific impact through sparse elements, increasingly honing their talent at sculpting each sound. 

There’s a consistent feeling on all three tracks that nods to the notion of ‘warehouse.’ You can hear a spectral glimmer of rave throughout. The winding, hypnotic synths on Stronghold evoke, or rather, produce trance, the arpeggio and brief vocal ‘WOO’ sample on Bis Repetita are distilled tropes of an era. The palette on Europa goes even deeper into the shadows, a proper trip-out, heads down, shoegaze tool, that finds it’s centre in the ominous bassy pad that thunders in to the mix, vaguely recalling jungle. And all the tracks are enmeshed in tightly constructed, blacklight-sensitive beats that sounds distinctly modern… all told, they present a very refined and subtly original version of good old techno.

GoldFFinch - Stronghold

UK producer JoeFarr strikes again with a gorgeous new EP containing two more subdued techno cuts as well as the hard-hitting yet just as groovy ‘It’s Yours’. Juxtaposing playful tones, melodic synths and fuzzy textures with the rawness of JoeFarr’s nifty trademark sound, this is tuneful techno at its best.

Among Bristol’s most popular and prolific producers, JoeFarr is well-known for his affiliation with stalwart techno label Turbo, Hypercolour’s excellent Hype_LTD imprint and the future cult classic DSNT.

Two of the artists on remix duty need little if no introduction at all - the impeccable Dutch duo TWR72 and Belgian producer / DJ Raving George, both with releases on London-based Bad Life flavour up ‘Deftoca’ and ‘Confide’ with their very own, very recognizable signature styles. The third remix is by one of our latest signings, Aarhus-based prodigy Variete, whose debut EP we’re proud to release on June 2nd.

We are happy to welcome Maceo Plex to Drumcode with the fourth instalment of his Conjure series, ‘Conjure Infinity’. Featuring two tracks ‘Conjure Dreams’ and ‘Conjure Floyd’, both are peak time monsters that introduce two very different elements. ‘Conjure Dreams’ utilises a groovy, melodic bass that is reinforced using tight thumping drums to shatter any dance floor into the universe. ‘Conjure Floyd’ builds into a more ‘heads down’ techno vibe with a very interesting breakdown. Two sure fire tracks to ignite the floor.

(en)Following stunning solo releases from Julienne Dessagne aka The Twins and Sascha Funke, revered techno balladeers SASCHIENNE reunite for a stunning offering called GOLDEN PRINTS, a gorgeous set of synth-driven, beat-bound soundscapes rich in atmosphere and suspense. 

It's a kind of unruly romanticism that perfuses the budding techno scenarios from SASCHIENNE, often starting with a deceptively simple hook - which slowly evolves into a tense drama as abrasive as it is therapeutic. GOLDEN PRINTS is no different, smudging the volatile faultlines between anthemic electronics, cyber folk and industrial drones from the get-go. 

The A-side's double bill kicks off with the crawling synths from CHAMBRE BLEUE, a dusty, introspective vignette whose increasingly queasy mood is balanced by Julienne's self-assured narration and an unswerving bass line. THE ERA OF THE LEOPARD continues the trek through barren lands with a strong instinct for survival, embodied by its sunburnt guitar licks, throbbing bass and resonant leads. 

The flipside belongs to the somewhat ominously titled DON'T PUT YOUR FINGERS IN THE SOCKET, an exquisite arrangement of contorted feedback loops, foreboding synth sequences and a relentlessly mechanical beat. Short vocal interjections seem to only further the mystique, merely containing the seemingly erratic outbursts of a cut deliberately spiralling out of control. This is music for adventures and other transgressions, undiluted and unfaltering - an exciting new release from two people who know which way to twist the knife.

Die Rückseite gehört dem einigermassen ominös benannten DON'T PUT YOUR FINGERS IN THE SOCKET, einem exquisiten Arrangement von verzogenen Feedback-Schleifen, unheilsschwangeren Synth-Sequenzen und einem unermüdlich mechanischen Beat. Kurze Vocal-Einwürfe scheinen den geheimnisvollen Nimbus nur zu verstärken, kaum daß sie die vordergründig erratisch anmutenden Ausbrüche eindämmen könnten, welche den bewusst aus der Spur gelenkten Track heimsuchen. It’s a refreshing trip. Kick and snare are well balanced and the melody is simply catchy. This track tells a story with less words. You will get lost between the darkness and lightning of “Opra Pan“. The title song of the same named Ep from Formel is rolling softly but straight.

“Chilecito“ is more easy, something for the dancefloor in summertime. The clap is tight and quick and there is a sunny mood waking up with the melody. “Malacura“ is darker and heavier. Every once in a while an artist comes along who reminds you why you fell in love with music in the first place. When a singer can tap into that passion and effectively translate it into his music, it transcends time, genres, and cultures, making for true artistry. East Coast singer/songwriter Lee Wilson has such a passion. and his debut Dopewax single, presented by four-time Grammy Award nominee Kenny Dope, "Turn You Up" is a prime example. It's the lead single from Lee's highly anticipated album project which promises to quench one's thirst for quality. Break New Soil continue their immensely successful Breaking New Soil series with volume number six, a four track collection featuring new music from, Maxime Dangles, Dosem & Supernova, Per Hammer and Kernel Key. The label's latest gathering of nations sees two label debuts and the return of some our favourite artists. "All of the tracks featured on this collection, as with all of the previous volumes, have been mainstays of my current DJ sets" says label boss Gregor Tresher. The first of the newbies is France's Maxime Dangles with 'Lyoc'. "This track has been my secret weapon for the last few weeks. Absolutely smashing it each and every time I play it" says Gregor. Label fav Dosem, fresh from the successful release of his new artist album, teams up with fellow countryman, Supanova, on yet another melodic, peak-time smash, 'The Good Way.' A fan of Kernel Key's music, Tresher is happy to welcome him aboard with, 'Init', a track that, he says, displays the Italian producer's "signature grooves" and one that has become a staple in his DJ sets. Last but by no means least, Per Hammer follows up his collab with Patrick Siech from a few months back, with his very own solo funky tech-house number, 'Ogaden.' Enjoy!

Maxime Dangles has successfully straddled sounds and genres with certain panache. Having signed his first productions to the legendary Kompakt imprint, he was immediately labeled as the new young starlet of the France's electronic 'avant-garde' scene. But Maxime's music stretches much further and sees him confidently releasing work with a variation of labels. His techier 'big room' sound has seen him feature his music on Affin, Bedrock, Break New Soil and Skryptom among others.

Today Maxime joins the Herzblut family for a special debut release that has already been a staple in the sets of label boss Stephan Bodzin. The four track Oralipse EP is a collection aimed squarely at the biggest floors and a release that again highlights just how comfortable and creative the Frenchman is when producing energetic peaktime material.
