SF Bay Area textural pop group Torrey delve deep into a translucent dreamworld on their self-titled sophomore album. Bending classic shoegaze, rainy day indie rock sounds, and 90s alt rock flair into more intricate forms, the band uses these guitar-forward songs to shape-shift between gentle drifting and noisy breakthroughs. Some touchstones might include Lush, Drop Nineteens, Cocteau Twins and The Breeders, but Torrey have a deft grasp of their craft and a forward-thinking studio approach that places them very much in the NOW. Singles like "No Matter How," "Bounce" and "Moving" are pure 2024 and place Torrey firmly alongside like-minded groups like Seablite, Mo Dotti, Winter and Alvvays who are enlivening a similar set of inspirations.

It's fitting that Torrey's most masterfully crafted album is also their first for Slumberland. As the album plays out, it perfectly arranges contradictory expressions of angst and tenderness, exaltation and melancholy, restlessness and acceptance. These songs are obsession-worthy for any dream pop enthusiast, with Torrey managing to call on some
familiar spirits for guidance while sounding more like themselves than ever before.

Russian Baths is a New York band named after the iconic co-owned bathhouse that itself reflects the dark and light histories of the city.

Russian Baths write cryptic, melodic post punk punctuated by noise and eerie soundscapes. Their first album, "Deepfake," was released in November 2019. "Split" is the first single from their forthcoming second album, "Mirror," to be released later this year.

Having only made their debut in 2022 and with an ABC Rage ‘Wild One’ featured video, plays on Triple J’s ‘Home and Hosed’ and ‘2023 with Richard Kingsmill’ programs and a support slot on Japanese rock ’n’ roll royalty Guitar Wolf’s sellout 2023 Australian & NZ tour under their rapidly expanding belt, GLOB have wasted no time in making their presence felt with no signs of slowing in 2024. 

Locked in due to the pandemic during the bitter Melbourne winter of 2020, high school sweethearts Thomas James and Lily Sawenko bunkered down and found solace in what had always soothed them, music, nature and animation. It was the latter love that inspired what would become their new musical identity, GLOB, named after the four-faced deity from Mars in Adventure Time, Grob Gob Glob Grod. Energised by the prospect of a new musical project, the still, quiet days of the lockdown saw Thomas and Lily tinkering away at demos of new songs with a fervour and productivity like never before. Following the easing of lockdown restrictions, the demos were brought to producer Michael Badger (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Amyl and The Sniffers) where recording for what would ultimately become GLOB’s debut LP began in earnest.

2024 will see the release of subsequent singles from GLOB with a full-length LP to follow.
