The bridges palliative care team is truly amazing at what they do for patients and their families. Along with this, our child life specialists and nurses and medical assistants on 10 S and N as well as the clinic show so much love and care to patients, it was a blessing to be apart of and witness.

Preventing sexual harassment at OHSU

This year, OHSU will transition to a new approach to performance management known as GROW Conversations. Instead of a formal, annual appraisal, most employees will have regular performance discussions with their manager throughout the year.

OHSU aspires to be a great organization, diverse in people and ideas. As part of ongoing efforts to improve the climate of inclusion, OHSU recently launched a campus-wide initiative on unconscious bias.

Unconscious bias campus-wide initiative

Four years ago, BUILD EXITO, an undergraduate research training program, was launched to serve underrepresented communities in biomedical research. The program is organized through the Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute, with more than 300 students currently enrolled. OHSU serves as the research-intensive partner, providing crucial support, guidance, and expertise as PSU develops and implements EXITO.

A leap of faith

The OHSU Board of Directors recently approved a 3.1 billion dollar budget for fiscal year 2019. In the budget, revenue is project to rise 6 percent.

In 2017, OHSU’s Technology Transfer and Business Development office supported 151 new innovations by 247 inventors. Supporting OHSU’s clinical and research communities, the Business Development team promotes innovation with an entrepreneurial culture.

Promoting Innovation

The white-cheeked gibbon shares 96 percent of its genetic makeup with humans, making them a good model for investigating genomic evolution. A researcher at OHSU is using gibbons to compare DNA structures to investigate congenital diseases.

Are genomes really like Legos?

When children have chronic or terminal illnesses, caregivers are called upon to provide a special level of care, communication and help with decision-making. But most of what we know about palliative care is based on hospice for adults. The Bridges Palliative Care program at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is working to fill that information gap and provide what young patients and their families really need.

The Spark Health Evaluation program is a starting point for understanding your health and what risk factors you may face. Spark offers anyone who completes a Spark Health Evaluation free enrollment in a Health Enhancement Program.
