Nathan Fake and Wesley Matsell's new Cambria Instruments label already got us salivating with a split release between the two Border Community-affiliated artists in August. NF's track 'Black Drift' was intriguing and restrained, a subtle return to the fray after two years without releases – but now we have 'Nuuk' from his first full solo Cambria Instruments EP, and he's really cut loose. It's a stunner, somehow both fragile and nails-hard, and easily as spine-tingling as 'The Sky Was Pink'. It's good to have him back.

Olaf Stuut returns to Atomnation December 16 with a stunning new EP, titled ‘ET’. This four-tracker is the follow up of closing track ‘Extended Travels’, one of the highlights of his album ‘Run’ released earlier this year.

"Since Run came out I wanted to focus a little bit more on club tracks because of all the beautiful gigs I've had since the release, searching for more joy and fun to accompany the events I play. Every track has more of a story on it's own instead of an overriding arch covering a whole LP. I started this EP with a follow up on the closing track of my album, Extended Travels, which is almost unrecognisable apart from the melodies. All tracks are based on jams I did during the tour."

They rejoiced in great glee at the falling sky, their cotton shirts soaked beneath the damp rain water. These were the voices of Africa which were missing from the traditional coverage in the 21st century. Too much time was spent buried in the past, in trials and tribulations of a proud and noble people. Tonight, the rain would cleanse such stereotypical despair.

Meeting By Chance AKA Skalpel’s Marcin Cichy debuts on Apollo with a gorgeous EP of soulful atmospheric electronica, suffused with aching negative space, softly ticking rhythms and dulcet piano.

Classically trained on piano since his youth and one of the youngest Polish National TV music composers ever, Marcin quickly developed a taste for electronic music, composing soundtracks for some of Poland’s influential and pioneering video artists throughout the 80s and 90s.

But it was when he founded the acclaimed jazz duo Skalpel with Igor Pudło in 1998 that things really got going. Over the course of their three albums and many EPs to date Scalpel have won huge acclaim, signing to Ninja Tune, and, winning Poland’s most prestigious cultural award Paszport POLITYKI as well as performing with Mira Calix, Clark, Kronos Quartet and AUKSO Orchestra among many others.

Following a serious skateboarding accident, Marcin backbone was broken in two places which meant a year spent between a bed and on a wheelchair. This period saw the beginning of his solo career as Meeting by Chance (the name inspired by a series of pictures by Duane Michals showing the reaction of two men crossing in an alley).

In contrast to Skalpel’s more jazz infused upbeat vibe MBC finds Marcin exploring the combination of delicate textural sound design with enveloping billowy pads and ethereal piano chords. Cichy displays an introspective lightness of touch that is quite rare in today’s bombastic modern electronica which is most welcome and perfectly fits in with Apollo Records.
