Adolescente no Rio de Janeiro, a primeira vez que vi e ouvi Nara Leão me apaixonei. Era um show de bossa nova – a nova moda recém-inventada por João Gilberto. Bossa nova não era só uma música, era um estado de espírito, dizia Ronaldo Bôscoli, apresentador do show e namorado de Nara. Ele sabia do que falava: ela era a encarnação da nova estética da bossa nova, com sua voz pequena e sua grande timidez, uma garota moderna de Copacabana com ares europeus e um look meio oriental, livre e independente, muito diferente de todas garotas que eu conhecia.Dali em diante virei seu fã e, pouco depois e até o final, também seu amigo e parceiro de aventuras musicais. Acompanhei de perto a sua trajetória única na música brasileira, primeiro como musa da bossa nova, depois como fundadora da MPB e voz da oposição à ditadura, Nara doce guerreira, tropicalista de primeira hora, revelando talentos, quebrando preconceitos, renovando o samba e o chôro, a bossa nova e a MPB, Nara eternamente moderna, a voz mais inteligente do Brasil. Além disso, como raras artistas de seu tempo, Nara conduziu sua vida e sua carreira com liberdade, integridade e independência e sempre fez o que queria, como queria e quando seu coração de leão mandava.

40 anos depois, ouvi o Pato Fu e Fernanda Takai, vi seus clipes. Adorei. Minha primeira impressão foi um alto elogio: puxa, essa garota é a Nara Leão do pop rock. O oposto da exuberância e vulgaridade das estrelas pop, Fernanda era discreta e original, cool e elegante, tinha um look meio oriental e cantava letras inteligentes e irônicas com doçura e firmeza, uma garota tão moderna, tímida e talentosa quanto Nara em 1959.

Quando finalmente conheci Fernanda, em 2006, não resisti e sugeri que ela seria a cantora ideal para fazer um grande disco com releituras modernas das músicas que marcaram a carreira de Nara. Para minha surpresa, ela conhecia várias, e gostava muito, o pai tocava os discos de Nara para ela desde criança. Me pediu uma lista de sugestões e disse que faria alguma coisa com John em seu estúdio de casa e me mandaria. E logo veio uma, ótima, depois outra, bonitíssima, diferentona, e mais uma, beleza! Tudo em mp3 por email, eu respondia com elogios e sugestõezinhas, e quando olhamos, e ouvimos, estávamos com um disco pronto! E muito lindo, que com certeza Nara ouviria com prazer, alegria e orgulho, um disco que honra a sua memória e a revive e renova. Simples assim, quase sem querer, querendo muito. A cara de Fernanda, a cara de Nara.

O mais interessante desse disco feito em casa e co-produzido à distância é que, por sua geração e formação pop rock, Fernanda e John tinham pouca familiaridade com o universo rítmico do samba, chôro e bossa nova de Nara, o que resultou em leituras surpreendentes e renovadoras de todas as canções, escolhidas entre as mais importantes da carreira de Nara. O pop, o rock, o folk, o jazz, o dixieland, o baião-techno, o soul branco de John e Fernanda (com o auxílio luxuoso dos teclados polivalentes de Lulu Camargo) renovam e reinventam grandes canções de mestres como Chico Buarque, Zé Kéti, Roberto e Erasmo Carlos, Caetano Veloso, Tom Jobim e Vinicius de Moraes, Ernesto Nazareth e Nelson Cavaquinho, com beats, loops, grooves, timbres, solos e arranjos do terceiro milênio. A graça e o bom gosto, a elegância e a discrição – além de um look meio oriental – unem a delicadeza e a inteligência da música de Nara e Fernanda.
