Breakin' In the House Part 5

Aired around the time that he was promoting his new album called Freakshow and touring with the Parklife Festival, Krafty Kuts dropped an exclusive mix for Triple J Radio Australia back in September 2006 with tracks off this album plus a smorgasbord of upfront tunes that were doing the rounds at that time. Froe, Gav and Merf made up the nu-skool breaks collective The Breakfastaz, known in the early 2000's for their unique sound and a heavy hitter in the Tear Out Breaks scene at that time. With other musical projects going on later in their careers the lads gained a huge following leading them touring the world, releasing over 20 successful tracks and remixes for top labels such as Passenger, Mob & Against The Grain. In 2005 the Breakfastaz won Best Breakthrough Act at the Breakspoll World Breakbeat Awards.

This mix was recorded for Australia's Triple J Radio network back in July 2007.

Krafty Kuts - Fresh Kuts - Volume 5 Exclusive Triple J Version

Australia's answer to the Plump DJs, Kid Kenobi has been in the EDM and Breaks scene for quite some time now with extensive knowledge as a professional DJ and music producer. Kicking off his career behind the decks in 1996 Kid Kenobi has steadily risen amoung the ranks to be where he is now. In 2001 & 2002 he took home Australian DJ of the Year complimenting this with various residencies and guest spots around Australia in the following years.

He has had various side projects going on such as Klassic Kenobi, The Too Fresh and Original Rude Boy and also worked on various remix projects with other producers too. He also runs his own record label called Klub Kids. You can still catch Kid Kenobi around various venues today.

This mix was recorded LIVE by Triple J Radio Australia at the Winter Break Festival in Sydney, 2004.

After the overwhelming response to Volume 1 I knew that making Volume 2 was a tough challenge,  so it took a while  to make sure this mix lived up to the success of the first one. Some of the finest moments of my career have been playing Breakbeat. I feel that’s what makes this genre of music so special. I have met some of the most amazing people and experienced incredible highlights in my career. Heavyweight Breaks 2020 is a snapshot of the hottest bass fuelled breaks released over the past 12 months mixed by myself Skool of Thought.

Those of you who have been following me will know I released the first Heavyweight Breaks mix CD on SuperCharged back in 2002. The approach for that mix then is the same now - 10 extremely carefully selected tracks which showcase the very best of the scene. 

The trick for me has always been to select tracks that are bass-heavy without being tear-out and uplifting without being cheesy. 

Naturally, I would like to extend my huge thanks to the heavyweight of breaks  - the producers who featured in this mix.
