Reposted Breaks Mixes

From over 20 years ago the quality of the is mix still sounds as fresh as today. This mix was aired on the BBC Radio's weekly progamme called The Breezeblock or Breezeblock as it was known. The Breezeblock first premiered back in 1997 and focused mainly on electronic music, the show was hosted by Mary Anne Hobbs and eventually got renamed to Mary Anne Hobbs: BBC Radio 1's Experimental Show in 2006.

This legendary mix from the Plump DJs shows just how ahead of their time they were in the Breaks genre and what made them into the legendary and well known breaks act they are today.

Aired around the time that he was promoting his new album called Freakshow and touring with the Parklife Festival, Krafty Kuts dropped an exclusive mix for Triple J Radio Australia back in September 2006 with tracks off this album plus a smorgasbord of upfront tunes that were doing the rounds at that time. Froe, Gav and Merf made up the nu-skool breaks collective The Breakfastaz, known in the early 2000's for their unique sound and a heavy hitter in the Tear Out Breaks scene at that time. With other musical projects going on later in their careers the lads gained a huge following leading them touring the world, releasing over 20 successful tracks and remixes for top labels such as Passenger, Mob & Against The Grain. In 2005 the Breakfastaz won Best Breakthrough Act at the Breakspoll World Breakbeat Awards.

This mix was recorded for Australia's Triple J Radio network back in July 2007.

Heavyweight Breaks 2020 is a snapshot of the hottest bass fuelled breaks released over the past 12 months mixed by myself Skool of Thought.

Those of you who have been following me will know I released the first Heavyweight Breaks mix CD on SuperCharged back in 2002. The approach for that mix then is the same now - 10 extremely carefully selected tracks which showcase the very best of the scene. 

The trick for me has always been to select tracks that are bass-heavy without being tear-out and uplifting without being cheesy. 

Naturally, I would like to extend my huge thanks to the heavyweight of breaks  - the producers who featured in this mix.
