The Rogue Element were a DJ/Producer duo haling from the UK consisting of members Ben Medcalf and James Tomlinson. Ben, the original member of The Rogue Element certainly needs no introduction. An international DJ, Breakspoll award winning producer and has released on labels such as Skint, Exceptional and Fat Records. He has remixed and collaborated for the likes of Fat Boy Slim, Lee Coombs, Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors, Soul of Man and the list goes on.

James known to others as Call Me T is a solo artist in his own right. Both were at the top of the scene when the Tech Funk Breakbeat genre was at it's height and released a lot of music through the now defunct LOT49 label.

This mix was recorded for Triple J Radio Australia back in 2006.

Dominic Butler and Mark Yardley aka the Stanton Warriors really need no introduction. Being in the EDM scene for quite a while now the lads have toured the world countless times produced a huge catalogue of music including remixes, albums and also releasing music under different alias's.

This mix from 2003 was aired on the Annie Nightingale show known at the time as Annie on One. (BBC Radio 1).

Elite Force aka Simon Shackleton has had an extensive career in the music industry spanning well over 2 decades. Starting his career off as a musician and being a band member with Thom Yorke (Radiohead) before moving onto his own outfit called Lunatic Calm which had quite a successful career and a few number one tunes including "Rollercoaster". Simon has also worked with a bunch of top musical artists, remixed, wrote movie soundtracks, toured the world and was one to watch in the Nuskool Breaks scene. He then developed the Tech Funk genre in the late 2000's included with such artists as Meat Katie and Dylan Rhymes to name a few. This mix was recorded Live at a Spanish Festival back in 2008, thanks to my Spanish friend Jamie for the mp3.

A 2 and a half hour Live DJ set from General Midi from way back in 2005. Although Mr Midi starts off a bit rusty with the mixes he soon warms to the decks to take you on a journey and a half.

General Midi, or Paul Crossman, who also performed under the name Fluid, came out of the Bristol club scene, making a splash when he became resident DJ at the Shimmy Club in 1994. His mix of breakbeat with nu-skool, electronica, house, and hip-hop made him a popular act.

General Midi’s singles have been released on some of the most respected breaks labels of the time, including TCR (Rennie Pilgrims label) & Kilowatt (Hyper’s label). In 1999 he released his single “The Westerner,” followed two years later by “Daft Funk,” the same year that his first full-length release, Genetically Modified. All of this has led to his debut artist album ‘Midi Style’ which was released on Distinct’ive Records in 2005. In 2009 he released his follow up album ‘Operation Overdrive’.

Paul Crossman also worked with writing partner and audio engineer Al Watson in the duo act called “Starecase”.

Currently Paul Crossman works as as a Teacher of Computing at Lampton School, London UK.

Live 99 was a document of the Bassbin shows from that era.  These late 90's sets were made up of staple tracks that were reduced, refined and continually being flipped.  This set in particular is a snapshot of the mainstay versions as they appeared on the original CD / mixtape for your nostalgic pleasure. xx

Krafty Kuts, real name Martin Reeves is one of the most influential people in the electronic music scene today with experience as a DJ / Producer for more than two decades. Never one to be tied down to a defined genre Krafty has mixed it with the best and has crafted (pardon the pun) the breaks scene in to what it is today. Many artists have come and gone over the years but Krafty is still here leading the way !

Commonly known as “The Godfather of Breaks” Rennie Pilgrem’s contribution to the early Nuskool Breaks scene is legendary and given this title is often considered responsible for the creation of the Nuskool Breaks genre. Before moving into the genre  breaks Rennie produced techno and acid house and was part of the influential rave group Rhythm Section along with Ellis Dee. Rennie is also the boss of Thursday Club Recordings aka TCR a label which he founded in 1993 which was a major force in the Nuskool Breaks scene. Rennie now concentrates more on his talented art projects but recently released some new music created during the co-vid lockdown.
