God x Family x Music x Vacation = Airplane Mode

1) I am not a producer.  Respect to all the artists that make this music.  My role is to deliver the latest dope tracks to your earhole.  That is my specialty.  I listen to hours and hours of music and mix up the best tracks I find for your listening pleasure.

2) I mix all my sets live and on the fly.  What this means is that I start with a pile of songs I might want to mix.  I pick a sample or a song to start with (or both).  Take about 5 minutes prep time to figure out how the mix starts.  After the first song, it's off to the races.  I have no idea where the mix will go.

I collect songs into groups in reverse chronological order and while I usually start in the most recent, I often dip back into pools of songs I put together a long time ago.  This affords me agility to respond to the audience.  Perhaps I'm being too whompy and they want some mid tempo stuff.  I'll just mix that in.  Maybe they are a more of a hip hop crowd - I got some of that too...

3) My two favorite things to hear when I'm mixing music are "I love this song" and "Who is this you're playing right now?"  If I hear those things, I'm doing well.

DJ Prolific is a Tastemaker. A music head turned DJ that plays a wide range of music from Soul & Hip Hop, to Funk & Afro Beat, to Electronica & Downtempo, to Jazz & Latin. Instead of following the trend of playing what's "hot" at the moment, he plays music that he personally enjoys. And it's worked well for him thus far.
