this set of compositions feels so much different to listen to today, on october 5th 2025, than it did in the few days it took to make that i spent in quite an intense state of creative compulsion. to be sure, i made it with the concepts of finality, conclusion and transition in mind. now, after over 3 months, i'm moving back into university to begin my second year of study, these concepts are still taking up a lot of room in my brain. despite this, they mean something different than they did when i released this pack.

 when someone leaves, i've always found it really easy to romanticise place. an inherent part of place is its permanence, at least in the short term: people move and change at a rapid pace, yet nature, seasons and places change gradually over decades and centuries. when you go back to revisit a place you associate with a person who is no longer in your life, you feel as if you've retained some of their essence as they were when they were with you, as if a part of them still resides with you in that place. i tried to do a similar thing with this pack, and with a few others that i released a while ago, ones which coincidentally became some of my most popular (namely june 2024 'going home', and the 'blessed pack' of november 2023). 

before i explain how this dialogue of place could produce a composition such as this, i feel that i should touch on the idea of sid and cassie from skins, which the title and album art references. a key part of the suspense that the show skins produces is sustained by sid and cassie. they're never quite stable, whether that be due to sid's brainless indecision or cassie's various mental health crises, or her move to scotland (to which the title of the pack specifically makes reference). the move to scotland is something that also held some specifically poignant resonances for me in my own life, but this can be passed over for the sake of privacy. the point is that the romance of sid and cassie says something quite important about the human condition. we associate love with the idea of eternity, devotion and stability, but in reality it's often changeable, one-sided, or driven by motivations which don't really come from our true self. the fact that sid and cassie never truly work out is perhaps not surprising, but it's an important point for a popular tv show to make in a world where love is often seen like a fragile, flawless antique object, even when you're experiencing it in a moment of extreme transience. this is something i had to learn, and the process took a lot out of me emotionally. 

whether its the malfunctioning video call software that they use to communicate despite the distance, or the misunderstanding with the two aggressively scottish homosexuals cassie meets while she's there, cassie in elgin shows how the problems experienced by sid and cassie are only exacerbated, or perhaps commented on, by the distance. what i said before about place works both ways: it's terrifying how poignant the feelings you associate with place and person can become, and when the person remains, but is taken out of your places, change is bound to occur. how well you can deal with this and what strategies you use to cope is down to you individually. just don't hold on by your fingertips too long, or the pain of change, both personal and spatial, will sear through your hands and callouse your palms.
