The second release of Public Hi-Fi's Sessions singles series features Austin-based artist, Dana Falconberry. In the midst of the band's recording sessions with Eno came "Palmless" and "Seven Hills," two ethereal soundscapes that create a bed of synthesized tones and rhythms to underpin Falconberry's gently persuasive vocal delivery. "Palmless" was inspired by the first flight of two baby great blue heron birds, and "Seven Hills" is a contemplative piece about the woes of leaving magnificently inspiring places while on tour. Eno produced and mixed both tracks and also provided most of the arrangements and drum sequences. The vinyl's custom packaging includes silk-screened artwork for the cover, and each 12” comes with a high quality digital download card." This will be the third release on Eno's Public Hi-Fi Records along with Austin's B3 trio, Dupree, and Norwegian songsmith Sondre Lerche.

Dana Falconberry - Palmless

We last heard from the boys in Memory Map with the release of their 2011 debut LP “Holiday Band”. We couldn’t be more excited to see them return with the release of their sophomore album “The Sky As Well As Space” on 6/10/14. 

With “The Sky as Well as Space”, Memory Map continue to flesh out their uniquely guitar-driven blend of indie pop. Few bands straddle song-craft and technical prowess as effortlessly as Memory Map. Using three guitars (one which cheats its way into acting as a bass), a three-piece drum kit, and vocals from all four members, Memory Map organically fuse cascading guitar lines, complex rhythms, and layered vocal harmonies into shamelessly accessible guitar pop.

In the three years since their debut, Memory Map have gained depth both in composition and production. The album simultaneously showcases the band at their most catchy (“Magnetic Center”), menacing (“Dark Freshman”), and emotional (“Order In the Waves”, “Antelope Earth”). 

Why the three-year gap between albums you ask? Well, the delay is largely due to the popularity of a certain cat. Band member Mike Bridavsky owns and takes care of the most famous cat on the planet, Lil BUB. And because Memory Map have been so flexible in working around Lil BUB’s schedule, the band is officially BUB approved.

"Several years ago, I wrote the score for a ballet for National Dance Company of Wales, choreographed by Stephen Petronio. The song "Ransom" emerged from a section of that score. ("Lanterns Lit" also began as part of that ballet.) Originally, "Ransom" included a full choir, and a gratuitous 4-minute closing section. Fortunately, the wiser voices in me prevailed. The synth line that opens the song and appears throughout was the last major change to develop, saving the song's pop potential from the grip of esoteric, apocalyptic melodrama. Now it's one of my favorites, and we love to play it live." - Ryan Lott
