For our first release of 2022 we are excited to welcome Fukuoka born, Kyoto based producer RILLA to the SVBKVLT roster with ‘Yugeki / 遊撃’, the first in a series of EPs for the label.

Featuring 5 thunderous original tracks, and packaged with equally fierce remixes from Howie Lee, Osheyack and Hyph11E, the title ‘Yugeki’ translates to ‘attacking the enemy or assisting allies as the opportunity arises’, a ‘search-and-destroy mission’ or a military action without a predetermined target. Tianyi’s artwork encompasses this concept perfectly with a cloaked combatant, bow drawn, prepared for action.

Rilla

Rilla has been active in the Japanese music scene for almost 25 years, starting as a DJ in Tokyo in 1997 and a buyer for Cisco Records since 2002. His event ‘Almadella’ with Keihin and Yusaku Shigeyasu presented and toured artists such as Shackleton, Peverelist, Scuba, Goth-Trad and Karafuto aka Fumiya Tanaka, with Rilla himself playing over 50 events a year. Since 2012 he has been based in Kyoto, and in 2020 released his first EP ‘SFTM002’ on Torei’s ‘Set Fire To Me’ label. His SVBKVLT debut ‘Yugeki / 遊撃’ sees Rilla expand outside of Japan for the first time, with a second EP set for release later in 2022

After releasing an EP called Angeltribe on London label TT in 2020, and a 2-song project Vorphic Skin on Toothgrinder Press in 2023, Kat Nzingha’s debut album Grind will be released on AngeltribeXTL on May 12th. Based in Philadelphia, Kat Nzingha is a multidisciplinary artist that explores experimentations with abstruse textures. By combining their innovative sculptural works with heavy low-end frequencies and celebratory tones they create blissfully cryptic sonic materials that are the extended bodies of modified objects of which they consistently fabricate.

Anchored in the spirit of not only collaboration but also repurposing – through a multi-artist cassette album tracing the lineage of jungle and rave, to physical products and clothing made with both used and upcycled materials – ‘Partisan’ represents the labels most ambitious project to date.

Enlisting a crew of close-knit artists and label affiliates including Impey, Sully, PAN’s Flora Yin-Wong, Leicester’s Grade 10 label, Abime label boss YTEM, Acre, Filter Dread and lots more, the ‘Partisan’ cassette tape pack – to be released on November 15th - has been designed from military surplus and will also function as a sewing kit, to encourage buyers to repair and repurpose.
