Thought to be lost forever, I discovered an actual high quality MA-XG TDK cassette I recorded from Omar's original Master Ampex Reel which was made in the early months of 1984, exactly 30 years ago today.  Multiple Editing was an integral part of 80's Dance Music and even though it was The Latin Rascals who made splicing tape popular in the early 80's, it was Omar Santana who took editing to another level which was never duplicated by anyone.  And this mix is the proof.

I spent most of my weekends in Omar's lab in Hollis, Queens in 1984 and we figured out the formula for tape moving at 15 inches per second X 120 BPM's = 7.5 inches per beat.  With this formula, splicing tape became an art, everything was in perfect time and kicks could be replaced by snares and repeated in machine gun fashion,

This is Electronic Dance Music being created in the beginning when technology was at it's birth.

"Acid Junky Vol. 1" (26 Year Anniversary Jim Hopkins Remaster)1993

To me the Plump DJs were at the forefront in the early Nuskool Breaks scene back in the 2000's, leading the way with new  innovative tunes and tight DJs mixes of some very underground music at that time. Lee Rous and Andy Gardner make up the duo that is the Plump DJs with over 20 years experience in the game and while the breaks musical style has changed over the years they are still touring and producing great music till this day.

This mix was made for Annie Nightingale and her BBC Radio 1 show called Annie On One back in 2005.

With over 2 decades experience as a DJ and Producer Deekline has cemented himself in Breakbeat folklore with a huge back catalogue of music and mixes that can be heard and seen all over the interwebs. With early collaborations with his sidekick and friend Wizard releasing a full album called "Breaks, Beats and Blondes" on Botchit & Scarper Records in 2004. Another one in 2009 and 2 mix compilations.

Nowadays with tracks such as Got to Believe, Deepa and jungle anthem Good to Have the Feelin, with the legendary Tippa Irie, have picked up play and support from DJs such as MistaJam and Annie Mac, on Radio 1 and 1Xtra. Deekline is still doing the EDM business to this day, touring and making music.

Both Ellis D & Rennie Pilgrem have been in the EDM scene since the beginning of time (haha) and both were a part of an act called Rhythm Section along with Richie T & Nick Newton. Rhythm Section were an electronic rave act before Ellis D & Rennie Pilgrem moved onto their own careers as an artist. This mix from 2010 was recorded LIVE at Rough Tempo Radio a place at that time that had guest mixes from top breakbeat acts. The mix itself starts out with some old school breaks sounds as Rhythm Section then moves on to individual mixes from Rennie Pilgrem & Ellis D.

The Breakbeat Junkie rose to fame in the early days of the Nu Funk Breakbeat mid tempo scene with a tonne of Funky Breaks tracks mostly released through the Goodgroove label. His tracks and remixes have graced other labels too such as Breakbeat Paradise Recordings and he secretly known to be part of the duo Second Hand Audio. This mix was a promo for Goodgroove Records for the year 2008.

REMASTER from an old analog mixtape for the '2AM Side' of my second mix tape DESERT FUNK, best copy we could find!  Back when the Chemical Brothers were still the Dust Brothers, this one helped me finally land some local LA gigs after getting some initial interest as a resident Moontribe DJ.  All vinyl, and a little rough around the edges mix-wise as I was really just starting to DJ, this felt like when I was finally finding 'my sound' and things were starting to flow for me.  I think it also captures a bit of what was really a very special time in EDM and early LA underground dance culture which I feel so lucky to have been a part of.  Thanks again to Scott Cattanach for the fresh, original cover art, Ken Lawrence of Pure Acid Mixtapes for helping me spread the word, Moontribe for giving me a chance, LA DJ godfathers like Doc Martin, Steve Loria, and DJ Dan for their help and guidance, all the fans and promoters for their support, and of course the fabulous, rockin' artists who provide the music for this sonic journey.
