Vivod label boss Ali Renault serves up this rather moody ep in memory of his late friend, Pete Mangalore of Human Shield fame. The five tracker kicks off with Northdown Acid, a brooding sprawl with elements of Italo and acid combined to beautiful effect. The amusingly titled Imminent Salad follows with its jacking strut groove, laden with lush pads. Peter Summoning breaks up the ep with its simple ambient suggestion. On the flip things get going again with slo mo stomper Forbidden Mind before title track Nawce Blizzard closes with it’s electro style hypnosis. Finally we’re left with an infinite cat purring locked groove to send you to sleep. Great ep from start to finish. All copies come with a free Peter plectrum and vivod sticker. DISCLAIMER: #ItaloTrance is not an actual genre name, although I've seen some artists/labels using #ItaloTrance tag to promote their releases. But, in a world where the boundaries between various electronic music genres are becoming less clear every year, where there's a "new" electronic music genre every couple of years or less, I think that #ItaloTrance is something that we deserve and need. Even if not an actual genre name (yet?), #ItaloTrance is definitely a feeling!

Plug-in Boutique have released VirtualCZ - a new plug-in inspired by an iconic series of digital synthesisers made in the 1980s.  
VirtualCZ uses Phase Distortion - which is similar to FM Synthesis but easier to program. It can make great pads, leads, bass, percussion and RAVE ORGAN sounds that will fit into a wide variety of genres. Many people fondly remember the CZ synths and they have become retro-classics that are highly sought after, having been used on countless techno, house, rave and synth-pop records in the late 80s and early 90s. Lots of artists still use them today for their unique sounds.
The synthesis engine of the original hardware is modelled in the plug-in which can load and transmit CZ SYSEX patches, but the plug-in goes beyond the hardware to offer new sound possibilities and usability features. It’s much more fun to edit, since all the important synthesis parameters have their own control. It includes things not found on the originals such as switchable envelope generators (ADSR or 8-Stage MSEG) and Unison modes.
Developed by Oli Larkin (www.olilarkin.co.uk) with graphics by Philippe Decuyper (www.eareckon.com), VirtualCZ will ship with a library of great presets offering both retro and modern sounds by Plug-in Boutique's sound designers and artists.
