Cult favourite selector Baba Noir has become one of the most reliable party-starters in Naarm / Melbourne. Baris Agkoc migrated from Istanbul to Melbourne in 2011 along with his prized collection of rare vinyl, and remains intimately connected with both classic and modern music from his mother country. He’s a versatile DJ with eclectic and deep record bags, ranging from Turkish-Anatolian pop, psych, funk, and folk, to contemporary Middle Eastern dance-floor cuts. In the club he deftly blends warm, dusty grooves, recontextualising sounds from traditional instrumentation into dancefloor burners.

With his recent Skylab radio program “Anatolian Delights”, and a dedicated following that flocks to his monthly “Baba’s House” and “Baba Spritz” event, Baba Noir has become established in Melbourne as an expert and cherished ambassador of the rich musical history of his homeland."

She’s a project manager for European Institute for Gender Equality during the days and a restless electronic music activist at night. Banger Podcast #26 by NEW HOOK

We first heard about New Hook two years ago when they contributed to Ombra International's infamous VA series. The Leipzig-based duo have been making their heady blend of new wave and post-disco since 2018, the year the pair released their debut single via local label Riotvan. 

The Ombra release followed with the ladies making another pitstop at Live At Robert Johnson, before returning to the home of their first single earlier this year for 'Manipulation', a punkish synth wave cut laced with their trademark sultry vocals. 

Their music is sleazy and sexy, tripped out and hypnotic; tipping the hat to the sounds of the 80s from electro and new wave to post punk and EBM.

Alongside an interview, the pair share a mix that encompasses the music that they love from dark, dub-wise electronica to slow, squelchy acid, leftfield electronics and DIY wave.

One of the good surprises from 2014 was finding out about these two french producers or more fairly, musicians. It is not common being so known within our scene and haven't yet released almost any of your tracks but that's the case of these 2 guys. They've been focusing on producing for 2 years and it is now when several of their best jobs will finally see the light.

The only track they've released so far it's a remix they did of the tune 'Tears' by Date With Elvis, earlier released on La Dame Noir Rec. Starting next month, we'll be finally seeing their debut on Astro Lab with the track 'I Wanna See The Light' (only Ivan Smagghe's remix has been released so far), an outstanding remix of Mushrooms Project's 'Yess' we'll have the pleasure to include on the next Play Pal Ep and in March, finally their debut on Correspondant with the track that got the attention of most of us, 'Something Is Wrong', already an anthem for some of us who've been playing it for a year. On top of all that, we'll be including their track 'Galactic Pot Healer' on Play Pal's next comp out in April. And that's just the beginning of the year.
Their sound could be described as a cross between new wave, psychedelia, a passion for synths and anything in between as showed in the mix they've recorded for our Series. The first hour more conceived as a selection of tracks and the second one as a proper mix.

Really happy to have them on board on the label, definitively one of the artists to watch out in 2015 and the following years.
