Sonically intimidating but lyrically vulnerable, “Come” is a welcome collaboration from Catnapp and AAAA, two producers with otherwise distinct emotional vocabularies. Catnapp, an Argentinian singer-songwriter-dreamer, has a sweet voice that skips lightly on top of heavy percussion and luminescent melodies, while AAAA, a 2016 Red Bull Music Academy Montreal participant out of Mexico City, explores all manner of propulsive noise and distortion in his techno-leaning productions.

“Come” is a meeting of their minds, recorded at this year’s RBMA Bass Camp in Santiago de Chile. You can hear both producers’ touch on the rolling beat, with ambient field recordings, distorted background vocals and squawking bass surrounding bite-size, sweet ’n’ sour lyrical clouds. AAAA tamps down his typical aggression in favor of quivering detail, until bass pressure pushing upwards gently bursts the bubble surrounding Catnapp’s voice.

“There is something deep and sinister about the sounds, but to me it's about surrender to the circumstances, things that you cannot control,” says Johan Carøe of “Hyperfist”. Opening with a man speaking on commerce and industry, the track slowly gives way to fuzzed-out dissonance that’s unsettling, raw and almost frigid, a reflection of the fact that Carøe and Gabo Barranco couldn’t figure out how to turn the air conditioning off in the studio. Grinding and halting, the track clearly reflects Carøe and Barranco’s individual workflows – analog synthesis and digital audio manipulation.

The addictive audiovisual structure gradually evolves into a photorealistic panorama, eventually reaching pure mental scenery.

Luna is a new release by Aber Wann on Fulmen Records. The original track is a spell, a chant of worship to the Moon: Aber Wann, as a witch, takes strength from the Goddess and subdues her enemies with the powers of the night. El Fulminador takes the song one step further into darkness, expanding the spell with the echoes of a distant choir and piercing melodies flying over the mysterious whisper of unknown creatures. As a finale for the ritual, Andres Komatsu transforms Luna into a cathartic rapture of ecstatic possession, inviting listeners and dancers to let go, lose their minds and visit the depths of netherworld for 5 minutes and 17 seconds. Luna vim suam mihi tribuit! Tē sub potestātem meam redigō!

Aber Wann is a producer, DJ and video editor from Argentina. A Fulmen collaborator since the early days, her work includes acting and editing on some of the most acclaimed music videos produced by our house, and also being part of our DJ crew. With her debut EP, Aber Wann proves she’s got the rhythm, the style and the darkness flowing through her veins. Not to mention the words in classical Latin language, an all times favourite at Fulmen Records.

The Techmaridians were righteous beings, but before the mutation they lived their lives like hordes of others. As land-livers, they were outcasts, overwhelmed and oppressed by the bureaucratic systems that were supposed to protect them. As Techmaridians, they were gifted new strengths and physical abilities that distinguished them from any other known species, it was as if they’d been born again. They might have been turned into bottom-feeders, but they had been united and given a purpose. Their age had been established. 

‘Out Of Water Out Of Time’ comes from the Techmarine Bottom Feeders debut album, Boanerges and the Watery Deep. It’s the third instalment in their saga, as told by Paris The Black Fu and Luxus Varta. The duo use tense yet bubbling electro beats and synths, ominous pads, and haunting vocals, to tell the story of a race of beings that are forced to make the seas their home after genetically modified food mutates their DNA.
