Situation

Utilizing inspirations and knowledge he picked up along his very diverse musical path, Stefan has created Dream Wide Awake. The album contains the best musical gems that were carefully chosen from the music that accumulated in this four year period. It is a beautifully mellow yet optimistic album, with a strong acoustic presence. Dream Wide Awake is an incredibly diverse album.

It features eight different vocalists- from a rapper to an opera singer- and many guest musicians with an array of instruments including the violin, accordion, guitar, drums, harp and flute. The outcome hovers between the electronic and the acoustic, the hypnotic and the melodic, between abstract ambient and mellow songs, between dubby songs and IDM glitches. This mix was made in honor of my soul brother Mario Julian Benassi. May he rest in Power..The Mighty Yuba River took Mario home on June 26th 2018...Mario was one of the most unconditionally loving humans I have ever met.He always had the most radiant smile on his face and was always there to help a fellow human in need. He was one of my closest soul brothers and biggest supporters of my DJ passion...He would always show up for my entire set and dance his sweet heart out the whole time!....I will miss you so much brother, but I know you have work to do on the other side....This is a compilation of many of Mario's favorite tracks, I cried while making this mix thinking of him dancing.I hope we can all dance to this mix and remember the sweet dances we shared with Mario...I Love you so much forever you sweet Infinitely Loving Medicine Man...

Deep thinking London label The Crescent return for their third release with a sterling EP from the multifarious eleven8. Known for a ruthless control of rhythm, eleven8 applies technique gleaned from years of bass music production to a lower BPM structure, often incorporating live elements to build three emotive and individual tracks.

A side ‘Changing Colours’ is a collab with 17 year old wunderkind Clarity and it’s a breathless meeting of two prodigious minds. A grandiose opening unfolds into a compulsive 130bpm movement, with a dextrous high end sitting pretty over a reese bassline, interspersed with stabs of perfectly tuned chords. This is undoubtedly club fare, but on a different level.

On the flip, ‘I Fell into a Memory’ is a richly musical affair, with subtle guitar licks poised between a pacy and progressive drum pattern, with eleven8’s mastery of pitch manifested in a rich blend of background ambiences and a perfectly placed sample. An intense half stepper, B2’s ‘Scattered’ again centres around a guitar hook that drifts into a brilliantly balanced ocean of reverb, while a crisp drum pattern moves this one along in a decisive fashion.

With commitment to aesthetic on every level a founding principal of the label, CRES003 comes with sleeve art by Japanese artist Buna, tailored especially for the release.
