Fresh talent flying under the radar, that's what Deeper Shades Recordings is currently standing for. This time around we found a singer / songwriter from South Africa who will make it far with his unique approach and voice.

Nathan X is a young South African producer/dj/remixer/vocalist, who has been in the music industry for 4 years. He fell in love with the craft while still in high school and started teaching himself how to produce.
His sound has been influenced by the likes of Lars Behrenroth, Louie Vega, Boddhi Satva, Manoo, Kerri Chandler, Abicah Soul, Osunlade, Black Coffee and his life long friend Deejay Cuebur. The latter was also his production partner for this release 'So Far Away' which is essentially a ballad combined with a driving, shuffled afro inspired deep house beat and a killer bassline.

Label owner Lars Behrenroth is back on remix duties to prepare the vocal for the rhythmically straighter dancefloors while Brazilian producers & remixers Nomumbah deliver a vocally stripped version which reminds us  of early 90's tunes you just can't pass up.

Nathan X & Cuebur - So Far Away (Original)

We are extremely excited to be first to share this incredible new song with you. Emanative and Liz Elensky present a very special take on one of their and our favourite Flying Lotus songs, “Tea Leaf Dancers”.

Emanative is drummer and producer Nick Woodmansey, best known for spiritual jazz albums and releases on labels such as Brownswood, The Steve Reid Foundation and Jazzman Records, as well as flirting with things more electronic. (Also responsible for co-producing and mixing records for artists such as Sarathy Korwar & Collocutor).

Liz Elensky is a vocalist, lyricist and vocal arranger who has been involved with Emanative since the beginning of his project back in 2006, as well as with many other live and recording projects.

With “Tea Leaf Dancers”, Nick and Liz put a fresh, outer space samba spin on the FlyLo classic. Elensky’s hauntingly beautiful vocals float above Nick’s live drums and programmed beats, supported by synth & percussive contributions from good friend and Emanative percussionist, Vince Vella illuminating the celebrations down below.

Regarding working with Nick, also her husband, Liz tells us, “working together with someone who knows you so deeply and multi-dimensionally made it easier to go wherever we fancied in terms of experimentation and expression. To be open minded and open hearted was for sure one of the intentions, another was to have fun!”

Nick adds, "Liz has always been involved with Emanative ever since the very beginning, but somehow it was never the right time to feature her 100% until NOW! Life will always get in the way, there is never that perfect time where the universe allows you the time, money, inspiration and head space - you seem to need to get the ball rolling against all odds, and then the universe works with you and enables this to come into being. I don't think Liz realises how much I love her voice and lyrical observations."

Vince Vella has contributed to several other Emanative productions, most recently lending additional hypnotic synth for Nick's remix of Sarathy Korwar’s “Birthright”. Having studied in Cuba and Brazil, he has a deep knowledge of their rhythms. This has led to his working with an impressive list of Cuban artists, and co-producing Gilles Peterson's Havana Cultura series, whilst remixing the likes of The Comet Is Coming and 4 Hero. This made him the perfect choice as a collaborator on this new take on “Tea Leaf Dancers”.

Available to download exclusively on Bandcamp as of today, before hitting all streaming platforms January 22, “Tea Leaf Dancers” is the second of three singles taken from the forthcoming new Emanative & Liz Elensky album “The Volume Of The Light”. Released on Home Planet on March 5th on digital and limited edition vinyl, it is available to preview and pre-order now on Bandcamp.

Kennedy and EVM first met at the Boiler Room CoOp Special back in 2016 and they spoke, Kenedy said he wants EVM to do a mix for him one day, EVM said yeah bring it come, and so it happened, albeit 5 years later! But you know what they say, good things come to those who wait!

The Original track in question is called FUN , a naughty sexy house track primed at the dancefloor. It features the vocals and songwriting of Kennedy who has always been around music through his family and soundsystem culture and has previously worked with Steve Nichols (Loose Ends) among others. 

Kennedy said it was a dream to get EVM in the mix on this track as he wanted it to connect with the Broken Beat movement having been following the scene for many years as a dancer. They both share a passion in pushing this UK heritage sound of Broken Beat also known as 'Bruk" 

The remix is a sticky House tune with a Bruk twist. EVM is alumni of CoOp Presents, a label and club night run by IG Culture and Alex Phountzi. This one is for those basement sessions... big speakers, a red light and a whole load of fun !

Jazz piano prodigy Beka Gochiashvili and beatmaker Rela combine talents to produce a delightful selection of juicy beats for Australia's young but prolific Inner Tribe label. We're pleased to announce their forthcoming 'Amsterdam Beat Tape' with a premiere of opening track, "YYY".

Beka is a proud Georgian and one of the world’s greatest young Jazz prodigies. From playing jazz clubs in Tbilisi at he age of 10 to touring with Stanley Clarke at the age of 16, Beka has really made a name for himself amongst the international Jazz community. At the age of 13 Beka was the youngest winner of the Bösendorfer Solo Jazz Piano Competition, Montreaux Switzerland. 

Beka was also the semi finalist and youngest participant in the Thelonius Monk International Jazz competition. He attended Juilliard at 13 and started playing on stage as young as 15 with Jazz legends such as Stanley Clarke, Lenny White and Chick Corea. Currently touring the world as part of The Stanley Clarke Band.

Rela is more than just a beat maker, he is a student of music and a Hip-Hop historian. Stemming from his roots as a 10 year+ internationally travelling B-Boy with deep knowledge of Funk breaks, Soul music and Hip-Hop culture. He is known throughout the cosmos for his drum grooves, laid back soul and experimental space loops. Forever evolving through different patterns and sounds, channeling frequencies from beyond.  

Winner of Today’s Future Sound Beat Battle Adelaide 2019. Rela has supported artists such as Onra, John Robinson, DJ Spell, Shaolin Afronauts, Billy Davis, Winston Surfshirt, Briggs.

"The Amsterdam Beat Tape" will be available to stream on January 29 on all digital platforms, with all formats available to download via Bandcamp, where you can pre-order now and receive two tracks in advance.
