We are proud to present our next release, Lemma2! 

As a true lemma it both stands on its own and supports the larger theorem: to explore bass heavy music across a span of tempos and time signatures. Lemma2 goes deeper into the ideas presented in Lemma1, this time drawing inspiration from DnB, Dubstep, and Footwork. The result being a collection of sprawling 160BPM polyrhythmic rollers.

Side A ventures into sound design, mangling field recordings collected on travels far and beyond into almost unrecognizable shapes. Side B takes on a more percussive tip, driving for the dance floor with some stepping d&b-not-d&b business and footwork interpretations.

The next episode of the fabric podcast series comes from long-time Ilian Tape representative, Stenny. As a major force in the electronic music scene, his club set history includes regular appearances at some of the world's most iconic venues, and this coming weekend (11th-12th March) he’s back here in Farringdon for our next Continuum 24+ hours for a B2B set with Ilian Tape homeboys and founders, the Zenker Brothers.

In this exclusive mix, created specifically for our ongoing series, Stenny takes us on a journey through his unique musical vision. From gritty techno to ethereal soundscapes, Stenny's experimental approach is on full display. A sweltering hour in the mix, that pounds the drums, ebbs and flows, and picks up the pace just when you want it to.

Very happy to have an artist I've admired for a while now join the series, Italian producer/dj Lucca Mucci aka Piezo (@piezopz). With an impressive repertoire of releases on Idle Hands, Wisdom Teeth and more, Piezo has become known for a unique signature style, spacey, bassy soundscapes with serpentine percussion lines & ever-surprising quirks & charms. 

His DJ style is a poignant flow on from his productions - his set at @terraforma festival last year was a major highlight for me - he soundtracked the scorching hot afternoon with percussive, bassy, rhythmic goodness.

For our 96th podcast, Brussels-based Moroccan DJ OJOO challenges listeners with her wide-eyed amalgamation of dusty dub and noise-inflected dancehall mutations – a mix that is disorienting, yet also entrancing and danceable. OJOO will perform at Unsound 2023 in Kraków this October, as part of our opening party at 89, beneath Hotel Forum.

OJOO is an artist of the SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and interdisciplinary art, co-funded by the European Union.

Presenting Corollary1, the first release in a new remix series flipping cuts from O.M.Theorem’s Lemma projects. 

For this one we invited good friends DJ Sotofett and Ossia. Regular conspirators in bacalao and dosa dinners, monthly hangouts at Globus-Tresor and sound system parties in Milano & Bristol. Through appreciation of similar frequencies and shared experiences, friendships grow. It felt natural to invite the two to do remixes for us. One evening we bumped into them on the dancefloor during a live concert by Senegalese percussion outfit Ndagga Rhythm. This was a sign. BAM! The EP came alive.

On the A-side, we hear two fresh takes on Lemma1-B2. DJ Sotofett with his dub heavy output on Honest Jon's and Sex Tags Amfibia invites Ghanese Afro-Dub drummer Ekowmania for vocals and usual collaborator LNS for keyboard work on his sub-deep club-stepping colourful remix. We bet the infectious vocals will linger in your mind for a long time. Play it LOUD for full sub bass effect! Second interpretation of the same track is from O.M.Theorem. A techy dubstep banger, this one!

On the B side, Bristol and Peng! Sound's Ossia picked his favorite Lemma1-B1 and drove the mixing desk in true Dub-style fashion with a classic riddim that meets an avant garde melody going in and out of the mix. This is a remix that deserves attention, with every listen revealing new layers and details. Even the premasters sounded phat as a greasy hamburger on the German capital’s legendary Super Power Soundsystem! The second interpretation is from O.M.Theorem, rebuilding percussion and bass from Lemma1-A1. Liberating himself from all restrictions the result is a footwork-reminiscent 160 cut, ready for the dance floor.

No genre is out of bounds within the boundless imagination of this Moroccan-born artist, who can bridge Coil and Evil Pimp into a sludge riddim for the ages. Now based in Brussels, ojoo’s diverse love for sound is apparent in every mix and live set she conjures up. Swirling reggaeton and dembow, atmospheric illbient and industrial beats, grubby grime and even religious folk music may make an appearance, each track a well-considered placement in her sonic witch’s brew. Though varied in style and genre, her skillful touch ensures the groove remains a constant, turning disparate parts into a dancified freak-out with just the right gonzo flow to make you go »Whoa.«

Like a blossoming mind-fungus, the microtextual world of upsammy hums with the uncanny seepage of the organic. Effortlessly blending translucent tones and funky rhythms, the Amsterdam artist creates a natural groove that flows through different speeds of spatial vibes and dreamy soundscapes. Collaborating with visual artist Jonathan Castro in many of her live shows, they craft psyched-out landscapes, playing with contradictions of comfort and solitude. These are beautiful companion pieces to her ephemerally-hitting DJ sets, drawing from trippy experimental DnB and offbeat techno.

Acidfinky is a German/Algerian DJ and producer based in Berlin. She is a Golden Pudel (Hamburg) and THF Radio resident, member of the feminist collective BLVSH and founder of the independent label Twisting Knobs Records. She usually plays “crispy sounds”, an umbrella term she uses to define heavy basslines combined with sharp drums and ear candy.
