The first track from the Artefact Remixes EP by Max Cooper and Tom Hodge.

Words from Plaid - "Max sent us a lot of lovely sounding broken piano audio to work with so we were spoilt for choice. 

The remix opens and closes with an ultra stretched, phase vocoded piano chord from the original.The rest of the track is based upon transpositions of the same chord progression cycling over 7 bars, while the beat and bass cycles on 2's. 

Rhythmically, it is built upon a great stuttering, sliced, fragmenting piano track from Remnants. We tried to convey a sense of archeological discovery!"

Here's Alex's and my oral history of this track..

Alex:  "The idea for ‘Eve’ came about from a short session in my studio where I sketched out some very rough 16 bar loops and sent them over to Max to play with, deliberately stopping myself from developing them too far at this stage in order to leave space the collaborative process to evolve."

Max:  "I almost un-wrote a track for this one. Alex started off with the main bulk of the ideas for the track, and I initially chopped it all back to a couple of key elements.   I then experimented with some FFT effects and building some chaotic randomising manipulations of the basic elements, and sliding drum rhythms so that one drum element would slip relative to another and then back in - all an attempt to generate some movement and variation from the simple building blocks."

Alex:   "It was interesting to hear the rough ideas I had created, developed in a totally different way to how they would have had I been writing the track by myself. Inspired by the new direction the track was going in - "

Max:  "I'd made a mess.  Alex helped tidy it all up and bring it enough back into line to work as a dancefloor track"

Alex:  "- I layered some more percussion hits and string textures.  We continued the process of sending stems back and forth, refining each others ideas as well and creating new ones until the track was ready."

Max:  "The quotient series has been a nice opportunity to experiment with new music outside of the restrictions of record labels and their need to sell product.  This freedom has left me open to put out a piano solo and feedback matrix, a 10 minute ambient to drum and bass glitch remix, a track scored to a video, a one off club collab and more - all projects that I wanted to try, and am glad I did, but that wouldn't easily fit into the usual EP/LP formats. 

It's been a sort of sketch and experiment project, much of it tied to the Emergence visual shows, where I've been experimenting with how I can perform music and visual in sync in a live format. "

20/20 LDN are set to release 'Binomium', a collaborative EP between Up High Collective and Vorace. The raw sound of minimalist hip-hop beats with a dark techno undertone is a strange crossover of the individual styles of Up High and Vorace. Synths slowly evolve into new sounds, accompanied by a steady 808 drum machine, glued together by routing signal paths through tape delays, preamps in overdrive and voltage controlled MS20 filters.

"It's the first time we did a collaboration like this. Most beat makers that visited our studio don't fit our style or just don't know how to get around with the gear. We're very stubborn when it comes to crafting our music, we have a certain sound in our head and we stick to it. So when Vorace came to Belgium, completely unexpected and unannounced, we jammed for a couple of hours and were surprised how easily it all came together. This never happened before, so we said, "Ok, let us set a date and do this properly". So we did. Vorace came back a few months later and stayed for three days. We set up some rules like; no overdubs, no sampling, no pre-programmed sequencing, everything played live, only cutting out the best parts and pasting them together. At the end of the three days we had 92GB of recordings of bleeps, trash, noise and beats: the result is what you hear."

Bucky, an artist from the UK, who made his Russian debut on our event Out Of Space: IMMINENT in March this year, present you his exclusive music podcast. The selection is focused on the Future Garage/UK Garage/2-Step music that creates an audio mural of the familiar urban aesthetic. The aesthetic that’s filled with street signs reflections in puddles of rainwater, buzzing of busy highways, echoes of conversations and music from behind semi-closed windows and doors. 
This podcast is formed in organic, subtle and serene sonic narrative. At the beginning there’s a sense of cold, lonely and sentimental Garage-nostalgia, imagery of walking across empty dancefloors, lit by purple and green lights. Then there’s a change of pace, an overflowing of the digital metropolis of progressive sounds called IMMINENT with visions, movements and events. The audio-story of Bucky’s podcast ends with a somber and hesitant, but hopeful walk towards the rising sun.
