British-Nigerian-born, Berlin-based Richard Akingbehin (@richard-akingbehin) is behind many crucial projects in electronic music, and most of them revolve around his exploration of deep and dubby sounds. Not only is he a co-founder of the excellent Refuge Worldwide radio station, but he also runs the experimental label Kynant Record and has some key residencies when not headlining other cult clubs around the world. His label recently released the first new album from dub techno don Tikiman in almost 20 years and this summer the pair will be playing together again as part of a mini tour. 

Ahead of joining us at Dekmantel Selectors later this year, Richard recorded this week's mix for us in the Refuge Worldwide studio with the aim of showcasing what he is playing in the clubs at the moment. It takes in his signature blend of dub techno styles with music from the likes of Parallel 9, Tikiman, Dialog and Delano Smith. It's spacious and unhurried but slowly ramps up the pressure to get you on your toes and vibing to his ever-warm, supple and minimal rhythms.

Three sizzling hours from the mind behind one of the world's best labels, Kalahari Oyster Cult.

What you'll hear on this week's RA Podcast is the closing slot of 2024's Organik Festival—already a coveted moment. But as the sun dipped on Taiwan's north coast, something else was going on: Rey Colino was laying down quite possibly the set of his life.

We're big fans of Colino, AKA Colin Volvert, here at RA. Few do it better when it comes to the type of pacy, lysergic thumpers that have become synonymous with both Kalahari and the distro One Eye Witness. A quick glance over the Belgian label's impressive alumni confirms how deeply his work flows through contemporary clubs.

On RA.954, Volvert's sharp ear and swaggering DJ style are on full display. He locks in with many shades of his record bag, alongside a grip of new and forthcoming KOC cuts—some so fresh, the ink on the deal is barely even dry. We could go into the particulars, but it's best to just get stuck in: this one's a deep, deliriously effective trip.

Our next mix comes from a returning guest and a key part of the On Ro extended family, No Moon. Alongside iconic releases for Mechatronica, Craigie Knowes and Salt Mines, he has recently launched his own label, releasing club slammers on the No Moon Mean Series and warm house, IDM and ambient on the No Moon Cute Series. He's a fantastic DJ and someone we're always happy to run into, and we're very pleased to be able to present you this live recording. Some words from the man himself:

I'm very pleased to be able to share with you the recording from my set at Tag, Chengdu. I was meant to play for 3 hours but the recording ends abruptly at quite a high moment due to the club getting shut down by the police. Needless to say that was quite a memorable experience in itself and I also expected not to get a copy of the recording after that happened. But yeah such an honor to play there, and really happy to have the recording to remember it with as well.

Some background, I recently got the opportunity to travel around China and play in a bunch of different cities. The trip was pretty intense playing in 9 clubs in 3 weeks, which is also a very big difference to the amount I have been typically playing in the last couple of years. One of the things I've always considered important in DJ sets is improvising and not just playing something pre-prepared, but when you only play a couple of times a year this becomes really difficult. So yeah it was really great to have enough gigs in a short time to try and play like this again. Tag was the 6th show of 9 so by this point in the trip I felt really comfortable. The recording is full of new and old classics, blends and little snippets I'd worked out over the course of the tour, and even a rare instance of me playing a No Moon track. I hope you enjoy listening to it.

A clinic in minimal from the elusive Acting Press boss. 

Why do certain sounds cultivate a cult following? Simply put, it's often because they resist easy consumption. PLO Man and his imprint Acting Press lean into this. 

Searching for the Berlin-based DJ and producer, you won’t find much online presence, interviews or conventional PR. What you will find, if you look hard enough, is a catalogue of records and mixes with a kind of tape hiss charm (a spiritual successor to Basic Channel and Chain Reaction, but scuzzier and lighter on its feet).

Founded in 2015, Acting Press once seemed to belong to the short-lived "outsider house" trend, but is now synonymous with a certain strain of modern minimal, one that is analogue, spacious and pointedly opaque. PLO Man's output is equally sparse by design: this week, he joins the RA Podcast with a characteristically elusive style, accompanying the near two-hour mix is a one-answer Q&A that gives almost nothing away.

Stripped-back, ever-so-slightly sleazy and coated in dust, PLO Man's RA Podcast continues that lineage in style. Opening with the featherlight microhouse of Margaret Dygas, RA.988 unfolds into a carefully curated spectrum of minimal, dub and deep techno. Among familiar names—look out for the blinding Rhythm & Sound and Moodymann blend—are deep cuts and left turns alongside the odd outlier, like lovers' rock pioneer Gregory Isaacs.

Like the best of his forebears, PLO Man wants RA.988 to take time for you to settle in. But once you do, you won’t want to leave.

Asked by 3voor12, promoters in the Netherlands named Hervé as one of the biggest talents to surface this year. And with good reason: Hervé oozes with passion for vinyl, playing and digging - but not only behind the decks. He is a driving force in the Amsterdam nightlife, being involved in the label Polychrome Audio, arts & community space Noord Space, and the newly launched club night Interfering Grounds at RAUM and more. I was born in Côte d'Ivoire and grew up on the African continent. After some studies in France, I moved to the Netherlands for a job in 2016. Music was very present in my upbringing, with one of my brothers being a hip-hop artist. Settling in Amsterdam in 2018 opened new perspectives, as I delved into electronic music and its nightlife. Alongside collecting and playing music, I am involved in a few collective projects, including record label Polychrome Audio, creative network misuse, and arts & community space Noord Space. We are also starting a new club night called Interfering Grounds at Club Raum.

If there is an artist who consistently impresses me through his craft, both as a producer and a dj, it is RDS. Part of the De Lichting crew, his commitment to sound, ability to express emotions through it, and deep musical knowledge are inspiring. I highly recommend listening to his catalogue and seeing him play records from his collection, it is very special. Two picks: his E-mutations album released on De Lichting, and his Underwater EP that we released last year on Polychrome Audio.

Playing the Nous'Klaer festival 2025 edition is definitely a bucket-list moment, and I am really excited for it :) There are so many festivals and clubs around the globe that I have yet to discover. I am very sensitive to artistic risk in both the program and design. Horst is also one of them, I remember vividly discovering its unique stages in 2024. Sustain-Release is also a festival that I would love to experience! I keep coming to the festival recordings, they channel a very special energy. It is a dream for me to play in Brazil, I fell in love with this country, where Gop Tun has been curating top-tier events.

Sleep D are a pair of Australian producers and DJ’s who also run the prolific record label Butter Sessions which has become a home to an array of artists including the likes of Jennifer Loveless, Hybrid Man, Ewan Jansen and more.

The label is rooted in underground club music and has been in operation for over ten years and has remained a consistent presence.

The pair themselves make music which sits somewhat between genres drawing upon elements of early trance, acid, downtempo, house and techno. It’s always raw and rugged, at times progressive in places but definitely rooted in clubland.

This mix is a stellar representation of the pairs musical outlook which is broad and fierce. It goes very deep and as such the length reflects the diversity and strength of narrative in the style of sets they tend to perform and play.

This one is a tour de force.
