After years of making their name on the scene in Detroit, Will Sessions are launching their very own label called Sessions Sounds.  The band will be releasing their debut album of funk originals entitled Deluxe this fall, with future releases spanning everything from funk and boogie to hip hop and jazz fusion, showcasing the unmistakable resonance of the Detroit sound.

The label’s first 7-inch vinyl release will be “Seven Mile,” on which the band teams up with Motor City icon Amp Fiddler for a tune that instantly recalls the lush arrangements of early-70s Motown.   Look out for a full-length LP from Will Sessions & Amp Fiddler to be released on Sessions Sounds in early 2017.

Amp Fiddler's new album 'Motor City Booty' is produced by Yam Who? and treats us to a variety of sounds from Motown to techno and neo-soul. 'Steppin' is one of the stand out tracks, a slab of P-funk supported by heads like Giles Peterson.

The Qwestlife remix takes vocals from the Dames Brown Choir, the original's jazzy synths and underlays a skippy beat to make a feel good house groove.

Nickodemus' last album "A Long Engagement" was released May 2018 and made its way around the World’s listening devices & dancefloors via dj’s and an extensive tour. Now he's back with a remix album that takes the original recordings back into the clubs with slow rolling remixes from both Chancha Via Circuito & Lagartijeando as well as soulful house mixes from DJ Spinna, Pablo Sanchez & Sammy Bananas. Bosq (Whiskey Barons) takes his mix of “Livin' Your Dream” to heavy afro-reggae disco, while Sagaan (Andreas Saag) pushes “The Crow” into deep Detroit analog territories. Also weighing in are Umoja, who strip down “Mystic Molay” featuring Innov Gnawa, and The Spy from Cairo, with a cosmic electro-disco version of “Inmortales” featuring Fémina. The overall global fusion that Nickodemus is known for was taken to another level into the clubs by these carefully chosen producers.

Our pick for the premiere is the silky smooth and blissfully soulful opening track ‘Strong Move For Truth’ which features longtime 2000 Black collaborator Nadine Charles on vocals. Check it!

Shaolin Dub was written and recorded by Subatomic in the downtime during the pre-production of the "Super Ape Returns To Conquer" album with Lee Scratch Perry and inspired by the mostly instrumental African jazz influenced dub reggae on the original Super Ape album but re-contextualized in a Subatomic production environment that includes both analog and digital recording & mixing technology. Additional live instrument recording was done in Brooklyn at the Bridge Studio and is documented in the EMC educational video with Subatomic Sound System on live dub mixing. "Shaolin Dub" has been performed live throughout the 2017-2019 tours but never released until now. 

Subatomic Sound System is back on tour in USA & Mexico Sept 19-29 with Lee "Scratch" Perry. More on that and additional upcoming releases at subatomicsound.com

‘It’s A Mess’ is more subtle, with a teenage Nico admitting to inevitable boyfriend trouble. Drums rattle before cutting down to the basics to let Landahls pontificate as it all goes wrong – it’s a beautiful mess. Beautiful.

Releasing his classic alternative R&B album ‘The Revelation Is Now Televised’ on BBE back in 2005, V has worked with such luminaries as Justin Timberlake, Musiq Soulchild and Will Smith over the course of his long career in music.

‘Just Call’ is a vintage soulful House joint, driven by evocative gospel piano chords, powerful strings and a prodigiously melodic bass-line. V’s smooth vocal tones blend perfectly with those of of House diva Lady Alma, whose performance is simply spellbinding on this gorgeous track.

The package also contains a slightly stripped and chopped ‘Alternate Mix’ which provides a little more pop for the club, as well as instrumentals and even a full acappella for more creative DJs.

London production hero and DJ Simbad (aka SMBD) joins forces with BBE Music for retrospective album ‘Collections Vol.1’.

Despite having produced a stellar series of remixes for the label over the years, ‘Collections Vol.1’ is Simbad’s debut on BBE as an artist, so he’s brought a few friends along for the ride.
The album features guest vocals from Lulu James, LaAerial, Steelo, Entek, Byron The Aquarius, Rae Rae, Claudia Smith and Miryam Solomon, all deftly framed by Simbad’s distinctive, warm, jazz-infused production.

Although a constant traveller, Simbad’s affinity with the UK, and in particular London, has placed him at the centre of the city’s music scene for many years now; with influences and inspirations flowing in both directions between him and his adopted hometown.

Says Simbad: “I came to London end of the 90’s with my saxophone for a summer and ended up staying. This is the place where my music journey as a DJ & a producer truly began. The culture of this island hit me hard &  deep. For BBE Music’s landmark 500th release, the label joins forces with Louie Vega, Leroy Burgess and Patrick Adams to revisit ‘Barely Breaking Even’, the iconic track after which the label is named.

Coaxed into the studio together by BBE founder Peter Adarkwah, Grammy winning House music hero Louie Vega, arranger extraordinaire and New York disco royalty Patrick Adams, plus the song’s original writer (and king of boogie) Leroy Burgess soon got to work. Even given the caliber of those involved in this special session, the results are simply exceptional.

Featuring live strings by The Apple Hill String Quartet arranged by Adams and Burgess, Vega’s ‘Boogie Mix’ stays faithful to the Universal Robot Band original, with potent vocal performances and a tough new groove for 2019.

It was at the string recording session for the boogie version that Louie Vega unveiled his ‘NYC House Mix’ to the assembled musicians, at which point he and Leroy Burgess quickly arranged a brand new horn section and re-wrote the song’s melody to compliment the track’s accelerated pace. What the team emerged with is so much more than a remix- it’s a unified call-back to two golden eras; that of disco-boogie and that of New York House. And it’s beautiful.
