Oz Echoes Special (NTS 05.04.21)

ndré Pahl (Berlin) is known for his Safari mixes—pitched down cinematic journeys through uncharted seas, forbidden deserts and distant galaxies.

His sound tends to oscillate between psychedelic trips, spaced out electronics and voodoo percussion, exploring the slowed-down heartbeat of danceable music.

He had a rendez-vous with Mexico City’s lunatic music scene while living there for some years, co-running the label “Nuevos Ricos” and starting to DJ in shady neighbourhood street parties and art happenings inside jammed subway stations.

Listening to André Pahl’s sets is like being compelled to push yourself inside a forest even though you know it'll be dangerous — head first, then the whole body, submerged deep into a strange jungle world, partly solid, partly made of shimmering liquids.

This episode of Respuesta Alternativa is more than just a radio show, at least to me.
It is a deepfried guitar melancholica soup of laughing tears between cigarette butts and beer cans somewhere in the autumn rain, it is the midday nap at the beach, it is a dream in the clouds of silence. The feeling i put into this selection is dedicated to my dearest friends, to all of them who i had the chance to spend so good and sad times with. It is dedicated to the heavy weight of memories that will never return and stay forever trapped in my mind. It is dedicated to everyone I lost and every heart i won, you are all still here somehow. 

Picture is a collage of Mutter, an artwork of mine from 1998 and a photo of a moment that stays for ever though it is long gone.
