I was not ready for this track. I was not ready.

This track was made for the tenth CHIPS competition. CHIPS is a weekly contest in which members anonymously post entries made along a certain theme and vote on other entries. It's a small-scale competition that emphasizes positive feedback and thonking memes. The tenth compo's theme was "Dreams", and I tried to capture that through the sight of a dragon ascending to a floating island.

For real, I started making this thing in full expectations for it to either flop or be very average in quality. But then I kept going... and it was like the track was a train and I had just been hit by it at full speed. And I guess you could say the flight inside of me took me up there.

A journey in the Aeolian mode. It parallels my previous piece Peaks in a number of ways, but also takes its own liberties and style. It also contains a reference to a pretty notable Pokemon Mystery Dungeon theme somewhere in there. Tried out a new genre! Haven't done Drum & Space before. This was made for the Pokemon Creative Collective Megamix. What's that? It's a collection of original tracks produced by artists in the Pokeremixing community, put together (and ruthlessly advertised) by AlmightyArceus. Usually the Megamix is for remixes only but I've been on an off streak on those as of late - you can tell my excitement when I heard an originals collective was in the works.

The theme for that was "fire", so I made a track depicting fire. The main focus of the track's interest was meter changes - the bar length is in constant shift, while the tempo maintains a steady 90 bpm.

ABOUT CALYCYCLE:

A homage to Calygon, a loop which I still believe to be my first good original.

At first this track wanted to be a full song. But as I kept making sections, it was becoming more and more clear that it was falling into the Seres trap of having zero cohesion whatsoever. So I said, "Screw it, let's do a loop instead". So I made the modulations throughout the track come back to the beginning.

Feel free to use this loop in a game or whatever as long as you give credit :)

Eclipse is a celebration of space exploration and an ode to the endless mysteries of the universe. I've aimed to make a loud and dramatic album that also respects silence and momentum. Most of these songs have a different flavour than my usual sounds and I feel that I've worked through some insecurities and grown in confidence in regards to what meganeko can be.
