Arriving in two parts, Chapter I is dedicated to the 70s and 80s old school sound, while Chapter II focusses on the 90s and new school sounds and artists. The release comes with special artwork by label collaborator Lodsb. 

One of the many highlights is the I-Robots Reconstruction of innovative 80s Swiss electronic band @Yello-official ’s ‘You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess’ with brilliantly squelchy bass and shooting synths.

One Instrument Volume 01 is the physical fulfillment of eight sound experiments composed by different producers using the guidelines of the label. 
The choice of the Various Artists format aims at creating an harmonious journey across different sub-genres in the ambient, techno and experimental worlds, which can perfectly embrace each other. 

The LP opens with a composition by In Bloom, the new project of Martino Bertola, who drives us directly into a melodic ambience. To follow it is the dense, polyrhythmic experiment by Fabian Kempe’s project ‘Korridor’. Serena Butler’s piece is built around spacey sounds and breezy rhythms. 

Yhdessa, the newly born Dutch-Italian duo formed by Grand River (Aimée Portioli) and Enrica Falqui, leans towards ambient atmospherics and ominous sonorities with a refined Northern European touch. Yair Elazar Glotman ventures us across his contrabass player skills giving an acoustic touch to the record. 

Swedish producer, Fjäder (Ida Matsdotter), handles the flip with a moody techno cut filled with evasive analog acutes. 

Claudio PRC delivers an electroacoustic soundscape created with a tiny, graceful drone machine. 

The Dutch duo, Wanderwelle, closes the LP with a dreamy and delicate excursion evoking the mysterious sides of nature.

In a scenario of overwhelming number of instruments, musicians often do not take the time to deepen and explore the creative possibilities of each gear they possess. One Instrument aims at counter-acting this tendency by challenging and limiting each artist in producing a composition by using only one instrument of their choice. 

One Instrument presents "One Instrument Sessions”, a new format on which each artist shows a more personal narrative of the sound experiments they compose. 

Neel opens the series with a solo record including “Aria”, a 20 minutes long piece made with the E340 Cloud Generator of Synthesis Technology, and “The Morning After”, composed with the Roland SH-01A. 

The E340 Cloud Generator is an oscillator which Neel says has always been a fan of. It has eight sines and sawtooth VCOs with unique modulation capabilities. “Aria” came to life while he was preparing for a live techno set: when he stopped the recording the oscillator kept running producing the sound and tones audible in the composition. 

The Roland SH-101 is Neel’s favorite synth. “The Morning After” is one of the 9 experiments he created while using the boutique version of the machine.

For the next One Instrument Session series, we’re pleased to present the Indonesian artist, Fahmi Mursyid. 
This mini-album, limited to an edition of 200, includes 6 tracks that take the listener on a warm, experimental journey of varying timbres.

The artist has always had a personal interest in traditional Indonesian instruments, specifically from Sundanese culture, the second largest Indonesian ethnic group, native to the western part of the Island of Java.

Paying homage to this source of inspiration, he has chosen to use Indonesian instruments for almost all of the tracks on the 12’’. Considering the strict guidelines One Instrument gives the artists, Mursyid has succeeded in getting the most out of his chosen instruments.

With each of the 6 different acoustic instruments he has eluded clichè and surpassed physical limitations to shape a bold, alternative musical language.    
All tracks are recorded with only one condenser microphone.

Certain to become a collectors item, 'One Instrument Sessions - Alessandro Di Puccio’ pressed onto 7” vinyl and will run a very limited edition of only 100 copies. On this record One Instrument presents their most minimal work to date; three one-take vibraphone tracks recorded by Alessandro Di Puccio eighteen years ago.

The tracks are a selection from eleven pieces that were originally created for a theatre piece called “Il silenzio è d’oro” (“Silence is golden”). After 18 years of being kept in a drawer in Di Puccio’s home, these previously unreleased works will finally see the light of day.
Short and powerful, these tracks suddenly break the silence and reflect Di Puccio’s interest in evoking virtuous and tender emotions. “One Instrument Sessions - Alessandro Di Puccio” gives the listener a feeling of simultaneously being tenderly cradled and awakened.

Playful and bright, the tracks reflect the joyful nature of the vibraphonist and composer who since 1986 has been experimenting and collaborating with many internationally renowned musicians.

Alessandro Canova joins the label One Instrument with a release entirely created with the Roland MC-303, the first of a series of musical instruments known as a groovebox.   
"Counting the Eyes" aims to create a meditative dimension: a contemplation of the physical nature of sound, space and rhythm.

During his early experimentations Canova worked with silence, sine waves and white noise as his only sound sources, developing a keen interest in a zen-like aesthetic.
 Influenced by his study on philosophy and eastern religions he aims to create a meditative dimension, a contemplation of the physical nature of sound, space and rhythm.  
He currently resides and works in London.

"Indefinite Lattices, the new 12-inch record by Glyn Maier, is rock music of a very different order. During visits to two mineral-rich sites, Maier collected field recordings of these environments which were then re-synthesized into four extended compositions. At Ringing Rocks in Pennsylvania, a field of boulders make bell-like tones when struck, as well as low-frequency tones that are unhearable by humans. (Scientists have yet to discern why the rocks ring, but believe it may have to do with the freeze-thaw cycle that produced them.) The other site visited by Maier—the fairly remote Kaʻena Point on the coast of O’ahu, Hawaii—was believed to be the departure point for souls leaving this world.

The unstable rhythmic patterns from these spaces, as well as Maier’s tappings, scrapes, and footsteps throughout the two sites, are paired with lullabilic progressions and ghostly effects. Instead of the artist’s personal expressions, the tracks on Indefinite Lattices are envisioned as lithic formations in their own right, as things grown rather than produced. They seem to have peaceful but complex lives of their own. Guided by notions of deep ecology—and an anti-colonialism that recognizes the bloody histories of these two sites—Maier refashions the instrumental utility of electronic music so that the agency of environments is emphasized.

Like watching rocks fall down a cliffside and splashing into a stream, or the humbling calm of a thunderstorm, one is left wondering whether this record is the result of human intention or a combination of natural forces. Treading the line between traditional and experimental approaches to ambient music, Maier edits the contingency of his gear’s electrical signals and the recorded environments into tightly conceived compositions. Indefinite Lattices is documentation of moments in the geological process, but also illustrates the geologic nature of art itself.

The first new music from Not Waving since 2019 and the first pairing with label mate Romance 'Eyes Of Fate’ explores the fertile territory between secular and religious music that has long fascinated artists, allegories on the divine and existential bliss and terror in equal measure. 

From the curdled invocation of opener ‘I Bowed On My Knees’ to the enrapturing devotional of ‘While My Heart Still Beats’ to the final judgement of ‘Kneel For Mercy’, the album wrenches highly emotive textures utilising a blend of centuries-old chant styles and orchestration consisting of  chamber strings, tape loops and plangent processed sounds.
