He walked for three days to find these ruins. An old map, bought from a merchant in the village, led him to a dilapidated arch on the edge of a cliff.
When he approached it, he froze. Through the opening, a breathtaking view unfolded - endless hills shrouded in morning mist, and the sun just rising above the horizon. The light poured through the arch, as if inviting him to step further.
Ivy curled along the edges of the opening - the only living thing left of the once majestic structure. The stones underfoot were worn away by time and the thousands of footsteps of those who had passed here before her.
He took his father's shabby notebook out of his backpack. On the last page there was an inscription: "When you find the Gate, you will understand that the end of one path is always the beginning of another."
He looked at the world stretching out before her. Pain, loss, old life were left behind. Ahead was the unknown, but his chest suddenly felt light.
He took a step forward, towards the light.
The journey was just beginning.
