Emerging out of the precocious Badabing catalogue is a shadowy figure with designs on House music. The man behind Frifot is an enigma with a foot in the history of Oslo’s club- and electronic music scene and a deft hand in House music production. 

Making his debut with Open Doors on the Vinny Villbass label, Frifot emerged fully formed, letting the “tiger” out of its cage on his first release. Besides recording, Frifot is also a live artist and making his debut on the stage last week, he came to the Jaeger Mix with a live set. 

Playing some bits from Open Doors, and mostly future releases, Frifot delivered a fast-paced introduction to his sound and style. Built on the foundations of House the tracks feature spacey atmospheres and bubbling melodies, driven by an insatiable groove.

LINO REX ist musikalisch sehr breit aufgestellt: diesen Sommer legte sie beispielsweise auf der Ambient stage des Nachtis in Olganitz auf und mixte dort drei Stunden alles zwischen Ambient, Dub und perkussiven breaks. Außerdem spielte sie bei Vary presents… das opening für Dreamcast: jazzy Hip Hop und funky beats inclusive!

Zusammen mit Nora organisiert sie MAIN INGREDIENT, eine Sendung für monothematische Mixe auf Sphere Radio. (Empfehlungen für Hip Hop affine Kids zum Nachhören: LINOs Sets zu Damu the Fudgemunk, Madlib oder MIKE).

This recording is from a legendary cassette recorded by Beppe Loda in the Typhoon Club (Gambara, Italy) in 1986. He recorded several cassettes in the Elettronica Meccanica style, which is an experimental mixing style that combines proto-industrial, early European electronic and sideways new-wave to tell the story of Beppe's experiences working in a zipper factory.

Part 1 of the mix is a vinyl-only mix by The Robot Scientists @therobotscientists featuring their favorite 1980s electro / electro funk classics. These have been influencing artists and music lovers worldwide, until today.

Part 2 of the mix is a live recording from the 1st of December 1984 from the CHIC nightclub that was located in the late 1970s until the late 1980s in their hometown Völklingen/Saar. The resident DJ’s name was Ronald Springer. He used to work mainly as engineer first at a pirate radio station on an mysterious island in the English Channel off the British coast, then at the BBC and later on in the Studio 54 in New York where he also started DJing before he came to live and work as DJ in the Saarland. 

He had great connections to record stores in Rotterdam - where he was born - and in Brussels. His club music selection was truly legendary. People say that apart from the Dorian Gray in Frankfurt, the CHIC was the best club in the whole South-West of Germany. Poppers, Wavers, New Romantics, sometimes even Punks showed up and had amazing nights together. Italo Disco acts like Den Harrow or Ago had live performances there, there were fashion shows and dance contests. The club featured an own restaurant and cinema and one of the largest lasers used for entertainment purposes back then in Germany. The Robot Scientists went there as teenagers and got highly electrified by Ronalds eclectic and quality-focused DJ style, hit-oriented, somewhere between Italo Disco, HiNRG, Synthpop, New Wave and EBM. Much later on, around 2008, Ronald and The Robot Scientists became close friends and they played some nights together in cocktail bars, icecream parlors and clubs in their hometown Saarbrücken. 

Unfortunately, Ronald Springer died very suddenly and far too early at the age of 63 the 3rd of March 2018. This live recording Ronald played vinyl with Thorens record players and used Reel2Reel Revox B77 to play edits and own remixes which you can also hear in a second mix that he made public in 2013. https://www.mixcloud.com/musicmaker/chic-live-djronald-s-december-1984-revox-b-77-reel43/
