Asllan - Citizen of the World [OSL024]

His five years at the helm of IDO (Intercontinental Dance Organization) have provided Valentino Mora the outlet to explore his concept of “active meditation”, through the lexicon of deep and organically-textured ambient house and techno.

Now with the inking of sub-label imprint EDO (Exothermal Dance Organization) Mora’s newest output finds direct, molecular inspiration from deep in the aquaverse. Taking its name from the chemical release of heat, EDO’s exothermic first EP delivers four tracks of heady, transformative techno atmospheres. Charting Mora’s evolution from multi-channel acoustic recordings, samples and digital-analog hybridity, Hydrosphere EP continues his production complexity yet arrives at this point via the singular expression of modular synthesis.

“Erosion” opens as a cryptic transmission from submersed entities, with haunting tone tendrils emerging from within the indigo unknown. A subtle echo of reverb softens the edge of its propulsive kick drum, creating an entrancing, enticing and unsettling journey into the deep. The snaking minimalist shimmer of the title track “Hydrosphere” evokes a landscape of frozen tundra, with a backdrop of shifting, urgent techno precision. Bewitching through endless motion and slow deliberation, chimes and pings are stretched out and warped to mind-bending effect.

“Doppler Shift” takes a forthright approach, leading with prominent looped bass tones, percussion and rhythmic sweeps. Rounded shapes move rapidly through the inkinesss, forming repetitions that only intensify in pace and energy. To complete the resynthesis, “Solarized” embodies the life-giving warmth of it’s name, beaming irregular shafts of illumination into dark, bass-heavy, chugging terrain, forming melodic wisps of tonal condensation.

Swaying beats stemming from the combination of pumping kicks with an elemental, levitating atmosphere provide a powerful companion to the track's explorative character. Its rhythmic pulsation without being fast-paced is so strong that it develops a spiritual vibe, able to synchronize our minds, bodies, and hearts. Our latest premiere is from the upcoming debut album from Sindh, Gupta Tribes, a fascinating blend of tribal ambient, modular synthesis and influences from the world of deep techno, all inspired by the Gupta empire of ancient India. Ujjain is an atavistic war dance using modern electronics to conjure up hauntological visions of a society long gone. The inherent futurism present in the synthesized sounds creates curious friction when applied to the subject matter, leaving the listener with the impression of hearing a legitimate document from times before. Listening to the tribal percussion conformed into a pulsing rhythm enveloped by obscure voices and sounds of nature, one can almost see the opening of the gateway displayed on the cover art, linking two worlds across time and space.

Monument premieres a track "Ujjain" from the release, which will be out on the 28th of November.

Premiere: Asllan - Hope

Asllan finishes the story that expanded in his EP trilogy on Oslated with the Citizen of the World release. The title track premiering here on Monument is a piece that the producer wanted not only to mean something to people but also used as a reflection on the tragedies that started with the pandemic and, unfortunately, are still happening. After many attempts on the track's story, Asllan made a touching yet markedly energetic production. Its tribalistic rhythms are the means to conjoin the common cultural heritage of today's world descendants. The fiery percussion patterns feel like a heavy, deep pounding that comes from the depths of the caves of a long-forgotten primitive ritual. By designing a natural soundscape, the airy atmosphere provokes the dancing of the bells, as they frequently chime before passing the relay on warm pads. The tempo is divided into phases under the wild drumming and, for a few times, depicting a focal point similar to a rite of passage process. Indeed, a universal production that focuses on the collective memory and extends the thread of today's sounds to the start of it all.

These are two tracks which I composed for the german documentary ‚Fungi Monster / Beziehungsweisen‘, which focuses on the intergenerational trauma in the vietnamese diaspora through the story of a fascinating vietnamese-german woman. My productions touch the melancholic side of the emotional spectrum but also mirror a little piece of hope inside.

A few details about the documentary - Synopsis:
Fungi photographs, writes poetry and trains in the MMA professional league. Her free- dom contrasts with the life of her mother, who works in her own shop in Saxony-Anhalt in the east of Germany. Despite their differences, they invite each other into the other‘s world. What is Fungi looking for when she keeps coming back to the same places although they are painful? The film tells of Fungi‘s searching eyes for tender beauty and the question of what belonging and family are.
