A new wave of artists in the house and techno scene continues to captivate the hearts and minds of dance music lovers and SOHMI is one who is helping lead the charge. Her story begins well before she emerged on the scene in 2018 - learning to play piano early on in her life, working in the music industry on the business side, and leaving for the tech world before finally reigniting the fire that was deep in her soul and returning to electronic music.

Since her return, SOHMI has only picked up increasing momentum with each passing year. Her early nods arrived in the form of releases on imprints like Understated Recordings and Percomaniacs in 2019 before kicking it up a notch with even more on Astralwerks, Odd One Out, and Nothing Else Matters. While her solo work is sublime in its own right, her collaborations with artists like Booka Shade and Anden, as well as her recent remix of Qrion's "11-11" have turned heads.

SOHMI's persistent effort to evolve her sound and skills behind the decks built up into the explosion of success she's seen so far this year. Not only has she played Coachella's renowned Yuma tent, but has since graced the stage at Lightning in a Bottle and Skyline Orlando this past weekend. Further, she's set to play North Coast, Electric Forest, Day Trip Festival, and more this summer as she continues to propel herself up the ranks of the scene.

Before the heat of the summer truly kicks in and she's off on another jam-packed weekend of shows, we caught up with SOHMI for a quality chat. A trip to deep house paradise. I had prepared a healthy dose of ambient to start off the night, but the Anjunadeep crowd never fails to surprise and showed up right when doors opened at 9pm.

With my unexpected early bird crowd in tow, I shared some of my favorite deep cuts including handful of emotional vinyl rips. Some of these songs demanded patience and made me a little nervous to challenge the growing crowd with, but they took it in stride and rewarded my risks with an engaged dance floor and generous applause. 

The cherry on top was compliments from my new friend Rezident as he pointed out the uniqueness of my set and how much he enjoyed it.

Red Richards & Sean Graham - Deep Water

FINNEST music presents, Around the World, a series of compilations where it shows the talent of many artists from different countries, in its first release, Panama Gems selected by Sergio Bennett and mixed by the veteran Panamanian artist Charles Bell. In the first place, Our First Time' by Glenn Gonzalez, one of the most important electronic music producers in Panama, owner of the 'Midnight Movement' label, first class deep house with an increasing progressive sound and a mix sublime, the bassline and the kick drive the track while the pads and melodies are in charge of telling the story, fantastic. As the second cut, 'Room 1993' by Rick González, a Panamanian artist who makes his world debut as a producer with FINNEST with this brutal track full of groove, with a vocal and some melodic stabs that will hymnotize you, has a sound of the 2000s fascinating, we love it too much. It is the turn of the residents, the Venezuelan DartZero75 based in Panama and a fundamental pillar of the nights on Selina's rooftop in the heart of Casco Antiguo, along with his partner Mōiqe bring us, 'Tribal Analog' a track with Afro House sounds very fresh with the essence of her country in the rhythmic base and piano melodies that transcend beyond the human ear, the drop is perfect to explode the dance floor. Very cool! The fourth track comes from one of the house artists, and an important part of the scene in the country, Gerard R, also a Venezuelan living in Panama already signed to our sister label Yet Records, presents us with 'Bam Bam', a minimal deep cut with a spectacular groove and a solid base that makes clubs with great sound equipment tremble from their foundations, the vocal stabs finish completing this great work, nice. As fifth cut, 'Hip Hip Oh' by the Colombians 'Bryan Kush' and 'Nicholls (Col)' both based in Panama, the latter being responsible for the management of the famous promoter 'Booth' in the country. With minimal sound we can fly through the effects that the guys have used on the track, the base sounds very forceful and the vocal with hip hop nuances just drives us crazy, the scratch effect is very original and different from the usual, Bravo! The last cut of the compilation is by an artist from the interior, 'Nislo Rudas' born in Panama and with a notable international career, he delights us with 'Voices', the most minimal track of the release, with nuances of the Romanian sound that makes us immerse ourselves in an unprecedented melodic atmosphere, the crunchy background is essential and the vocals give it the necessary stop to be able to explode again, the low frequencies are in their precise place and everything sounds beautiful. Brilliant. To finish we can enjoy a Dj Mix by Charles Bell, one of the best curators in the country and with the greatest weight in the scene, if you want to consolidate yourself in the city, you must have his blessing hehehe, great job friend!
