Forthcoming 12/03 on upcoming Oxford-based imprint Volition Audio, exciting Hungarian producer Grystmp supplies a fascinatingly brutal insight into his hotly-tipped production aesthetic on a brand new 2-track offering. Sure to impress both punters and peers and like, both tracks are certified, bonafide stompers, with each cut bringing something different and varied, whilst also treading down a similar, gnarly path at the same time.

The A-side - ‘Space Funk’ (which we’ve premiered today - is perhaps the more full-frontal of the pairing sonics -wise. Effortlessly minimalistic and stripped back, ‘Space Funk’ excels within its raw, restrained boundaries and patterned, excitable percs which seem to travel and pivot with minds of their own at points. That intermittent, background-based shaker is to die for; it’s got just enough prominence and relenting grubbage to have a sustained impact, but also enough snappy ambience to fit in with all those other cracking elements.

As we mentioned, ‘Fear’ is more of the brilliant same, but with a tad more focus on the subs. Where ‘Space Funk’ had permission to roam around like a rabid tiger, here it’s more of a caged animal; that lead bass and sub pairing is kept more or less in line for the majority of its duration, but it’s got just enough flair and movement to remind you that it could spark off at any moment; there’s some real fury lurking in the depths of this one. Scary stuff, and methodically undertaken by the don Grystmp.
