Every now and then record labels and artists find a beautiful harmony, managing to release the perfect body of work, at the right time for both parties. Here at Soulvent, Pola & Bryson’s seminal LP This Time Last Year was certainly no exception to this rule - if not proof of it. 

The 15-track masterpiece released last August had collaborators from both near and far, and allowed the pair to truly delve into their ever-emerging sound. From the sub-laden, face-slapping amen breaks of Devil to the hypnotic arpeggios of Stuck In A Memory and of course the shimmering vocoder of Diamonds Fall: the duo delivered a stunning piece of work that gained some fairly heavy praise from producer & label peers alike, no doubt showcasing their talents enough for another label to gain interest in them.   

After signing to Shogun Audio in late 2016, Harry & Jack have been seriously busy, dropping their Find Your Way & Unsaid EPs on the imprint - and even finding time to remix a legend like Moby! To celebrate their successes, and give some of the scene’s hottest players a chance at cut, we decided to give This Time Last Year a last hurrah.

Rudimentary debuts for Itoa and Crypticz as they combine to producer a solid 4 track dub, techno, footwork, ghetto inspired drum n bass 12”. 

Alex Godoy (Itoa) and Jordan Parsons (Crypticz) couldn’t help but cross paths as both their musical influences encapsulate the continuous blur between Dubstep, Drum n Bass and footwork with Dub being the keystone to their musical arch. 

Crypticz was sucked into the vortex of the uniquely punchy sounds that Itoa had put out and was itching to find out more. At the same time he was pushing the foundations of his on sound, which has Dub.

Jordan (Crypticz) found himself wanting after toying with a few ideas which fell into line with a more dancehall sensibility. He felt the ideas he had, needed something else. He was struggling to put his finger on exactly what was missing, then… enter Itoa’s ‘French Cola and “Peng” releases. Bingo! Jordans finger was now pointed at Alex’s (Itoa) irresistibly joyous drum patterns, and thought… “This guy”, with the happy egg face as a facebook profile, is the man to unlock this business. The pair hooked up and from there worked on the 31 Recordings “MTD” release for Doc Scott. 

After their work together on that beast of a record they wanted to get back to it! Email tennis and facebook chats occurred for some time all the while passing bits and pieces back and fourth. Each time asking questions and encouraging the process for one another. 

Street Drinker was the starting point with Alex leaving it open and sparse for Jordan to roll in with percussion. Dub techniques where leaned on to add a techno, dubstep feel to Valis. 

An instructional dance video was the inspirational magic dust added to the already grounded baseline and obnoxious claps in “How it’s Done”. Jordan admits watching too much Adventure Time was the catalyst for the humours concept of this piece. So… ’come ons', 'shake it' and '1,2,3,4' were sampled from various work out videos and the arrangement tidied up from there. 

Manatata wraps the release up with a dubby roller with erupts with texture and intricate drum patterns and driving kick.

'WE GET OURS AT NIGHT' - too right. The exciting, toe-tapping Trax Haven imprint seems to get stronger with each passing release, locking down that turbo-charged, snappy 160 sound that's getting so much love right now. Bringing through a well-defined love for the famed rave era, they've locked in footwork sensei Samurai Breaks & the mega-exciting Arcane for their next impending release, after a strong showing last time out on their highly popular Council Trax VA. This one brings the goods yet again, firing out the lickshot and utilising a footwork template to birth an EP that's heavily influenced by House, Acid, Jungle and Hardcore sonics. What a treat.

Last year Samurai Breaks Pumped up the volume with his ep, this year he is back to Pump Dat Rave Up! The Leeds based producer delivers a hot sounding 4-track EP: Pump Dat Rave Up will make any junglist jump 4 meters high. 
“Supa” opens the EP with ravey sound combined with classic jungle breaks into a compelling track, “Pump Dat Rave Up” gives the name to the EP and starts with a footwork-jungle mood bringing full energy to the listener, the sounds evolve and keep on grooving all along the track, “U Got Me” makes great use of classic vocal samples and combines them with big basses, rave stabs and freshly programmed drums and breaks, while “Clappah” will make you clap your hands at 170 bpm following its enormous low end basses.
Sam AKA Samurai Breaks is a UK based Producer and DJ fusing together influences of Rave, Footwork, Jungle, Bassline, Grime and Acid into a unique high energy workout. Here at OTW, the thing we love most is shining a light on our favourite music from 140-170, and we always, always relish the opportunity to dip into some rave music. And, if there's one thing for sure, there's not many labels putting out better music of this ilk than Trax Haven at present. Following up their latest drop, DV60's scrumptiously bouncy edit of Sinistarr & Doctor Jeep's 'Red Stripe' (available now), they welcome label favourite Samurai Breaks and the mega-talented Origin to the imprint. There's a total of 5 tracks showcased on the Extensiv Hype, and there's some proper extensive hype bizness going on here; these will definitely make your glasses steam up. 'Drop That' is barbarically brilliant as per, integrating all those rave-style, ludicrous breakbeats and prancing shuffles that make this genre, these artists and this label so special. Samurai Breaks & Origin collaborate on their forthcoming EP 'Extensiv Hype'. A collection of five rave inspired footwork jungle tracks over 5 years in the making.
