Right up to his 2016 tour, where we met him, this architect of reggae music has continued to carry the banner with new concerts and recordings. And he tells his story with bracing poetic candor. Meanwhile in Egypt, Hakim, the lion of shaabi music, remains a superstar and a player in that country’s turbulent pop scene. On a rare visit to New York, Hakim gives us a tour through his post-revolution songs, and offers personal insights into Egypt’s equally turbulent politics.

From humble beginnings in Palmerston North, hosting a specialist house and techno radio show at age 16, to collecting records, moving to Melbourne in 2001, forming a crew, and running gigs, Fee says, 'music has always been an integral part of who I am. My passion extends to different genres of music. House was my first love and reggae is who I am married to now!'

Moving ever forward, Fee has re-joined forces with selector Bellyas, after a short hiatus of living in separate cities. The pair originally formed in 2004 as 'Housewife's Choice Sound'. Since then they have been running dances red hot and dropping dubs like dirt!

The inspiration for this mix comes after a recent visit back to her homeland, Aotearoa, NZ, where Fee played a roots set in Wellington. She has invited some of Australia's finest reggae vocal talents to bless this exclusive mixtape for NiceUp - special request!

On U Sound was formed in the early-1980s.Initially Creation Rebel, Prince Far I, Bim Sherman, LondOn Underground and The Mothmen formed the ‘crew’ responsible for the first records.Having worked doing live shows for a long period, it was decided to change the emphasis to making records.This decision was due to the difficulty of making a success of any one group.It was logical, in order to make any money at all, to take members of various groups and create ‘new’ ones.This resulted in many recordings ranging from the New Age Steppers to African Head Charge, from Singer &amp; Players to Barmy Army, Mark Stewart &amp; Maffia, Akabu and Dr. Pablo &amp; Dub Syndicate to name a few.

These deranged records are not exactly commercial but would be if enough people got the opportunity to hear them.Anyway, never mind.Those who have heard and continued to buy or tape On U Sound records have seldom been disappointed.
