''O Bloco Rei surgiu em outubro de 2005, na região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte. A banda iniciou tocando Samba, Mpb , Axé, Rap, músicas próprias no ritmo de Carnaval. Mostrar a força da musicalidade mineira e inovar, através de uma batida forte e alegria contagiante, são as grandes características do bloco. 
          A banda surgiu da iniciativa de jovens percussionistas em formar um Bloco de Carnaval inovador com tambores mineiros adeptos ao formato de escola de samba. O Bloco Rei é bastante eclético e vem conquistando cada vez mais públicos em todas as cidades que passa, apresentando músicas de sucesso em toda Minas Gerais. Misturamos os grandes sucessos do Samba, MPB, Tim Maia, Jorge Ben, Beatles e Enredos de grandes escolas de Samba. Interpreta ainda as levadas do axé, rap, sertanejo, forró e músicas próprias. 
O bloco é composto por 10 percussionistas que representam o formato Escola de Samba e 8 músicos profissionais que realizam a apresentação de um repertório eclético do samba ao hip hop. Todos contribuem para realizar a mistura perfeita de grandes ritmos que agitam a público.
A banda traz como bandeira a folia mineira, onde todos integrantes tocam com energia, amor ao que faz e alegria. O Bloco Rei é a expressão da força da cultura popular.
