Oh, December! 🎄Time for fireside chillin' with friends and fam, with a glass of tasty natural wine in hand (easy listening music playing in the background). That’s what we call relaxing.

To warm up the cold December we’ve invited a wine enthusiast and a great selector – @ericfilipus – to mix it up for us. Eric enjoys his life mainly in Barcelona nowadays, so it’s more than special to have his warm touch to the What Are You Listening? -mix series. This December's heating up already. 💚

”I choose records that I would wanna sip wine to in a hazy bar setting, nothing too uplifting, simply just good listening music, the stuff you can listen to for hours, sophisticated, yet warm and playful.” That’s how Eric describes the mix clearly sipping a special wine at the same time.

With cherry and spice and everything nice, this Blaufänkisch pairs well with the season's foods or you can share it by itself with friends.

Grown on the unique lime and slate soil of Leithaberg, Nehrer's Leithaberg Blaufränkisch exudes the vineyard's minerality. Hand picked and sustainably produced, the wine ferments spontaneously in steel containers. Maturation happens in 500 and 2000 liter wooden barrels for 9 months on lees. 

Nehrer family’s vineyard is located in Burgenland on the hills of Leitha Mountain. The area’s terroir consists of a warm climate cooled by cold winds and a soil consisting of clay and lime. These factors create structurally elegant wines which exude the terroir in their flavor.

Unfined, no added sulphites, vegan. Available at Alko Arkadia and the Webshop.

Throughout the years in the industry and contributions through nightclubs, community radios, record shops, and listening bars, Eric is known for his diverse taste both as a DJ and musical curator. After spending a decade within the music scene in Helsinki, Finland, Eric decided a couple years ago to change the scenery to Mediterranean coast in Barcelona. 

For this 3rd episode of lazed mix series, Eric Filipus takes us somewhere between mountains, seas and forests. An hour voyage deeply rooted on the tribal spectrum and a glimpse of the folklore of an imaginary civilization that we can draw in our mind while listening...

Eric: "The mix is a sum of a months long music journal, centered around spiritual listenings. For a change, I chose not to actively search for tracks. Instead, while listening to music over the past few months, I set aside every piece that resonated within the spiritual context, in sort of a journal way…

Bringing all these pieces of music almost blindly to the studio and intuitively selecting each record while recording felt natural and more importantly honest. It was like gathering moments from the recent past and arranging them in a completely new order. I find value in this approach, where extensive research and preparation lead to a spontaneous compilation at the last moment. 

Every track is played in its entirety, so it’s more of a curational thing, rather than a mixtape. I hope you have peaceful times and can feel at least some of these moments while listening to the recording.

"I was planning to go a bit more atmospheric and techno, but the summer heat took me in a housier direction. I included some personal classics that rarely leave the bag and a bunch of new releases from friends and other producers whose work I admire. After having a little break from DJing, I gained a lot of perspective and felt a need to reconnect with my roots in house music—the dubby, percussive, tribal kind. But let the selection speak for itself; at least it's very true to me."

“CDparanoia was a program I used to use to digitize CDs when I dabbled in Linux. I thought it was funny to name my IDM album that. The tracks on it were created between 2017 and 2023. Some of them I made on analog synthesizers, which gave them a special warmth and character; others were created with Ableton because I wanted to experiment with complex arrangements. But all the tracks on the album have something in common: it is a combination of abstract rhythmic structure and stretchy, floaty pads that create depth and space of sound.”

Bradberry is also known for his work as one half of the Leeds-based duo PBR Streetgang.

The seventh release on OO Recordings takes the shape of a debut EP from one of the most active members of Helsinki’s underground dance scene as DJ WUF shares three original tracks that scan the spectrum of house in its purest forms. To balance the EP off, we have a local legend Imaginary_FRND with a downtempo take.

For the past few years, there has been a name on numerous posters around town (ok mostly virtually but you get the point) as the elusive DJ WUF has made a barking mark on the local scene of Helsinki, Finland. OO Recordings is thrilled to announce the debut EP from one of the nicest, most active, and wonderfully unique characters we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know.

Attention Deficit returns the label to one of our true loves - pure quality house music that serves the dancefloors with that certain groove that this genre in its rawest forms is known for. Much like DJ WUF’s DJing, the EP nods to the origins of the beloved genre yet infuses it with a contemporary take as if to prove that there is still so much to be found in house music and that new names lead to new takes, whilst simultaneously staying true to the genre. DJ WUF carefully plays into the continuum of house music but barks in his way.

The EP kicks off with BP2RE006. A track that blends a sort of basement kick and bass workout with percussions that contrast the depths of the subby floor. This opener is the perfect teaser into the whole EP, as it’s an interplay with the darkness of the night with sprinkles of bright lights on top. The next track - Moxy - was the first we grabbed onto here at OO Recordings. It’s got that certain je ne sais quoi that makes it into that special track that you play when you want to take the next step on the dancefloor. Tension and release, tension and release - without being too obvious about it. After that, we move into the deeper realms of the night sky as Trentnor takes you well into the after-hours mood. DJ WUF’s original vocals robbed with the sustained pads lift you from the current into the escapism that only a long night out can deliver. And boy do we got hats on this cut. No night is complete without the move into the morning light, which on this EP is delivered by Imaginary_FRND (aka J_TDJ of Trevor Deep Jr. aka Jaako Hurme). Taking us into the downtempo-scape, the reworked version of Trentnor isn’t something you were expecting to wrap this up but you’ll feel the connection once you get to it.
