Open Records is proud to present the first taste of our monster new compilation Expansion Pack II, compiled by label boss Jesse Kuch.

Jam-packed with 21 fresh tracks celebrating 10 years of Open Records, artists include Doppel, Jamie Stevens, Thankyou City, FunkForm, Moodmachine, Taya, Out Of Sorts, The Journey, Concierj, Tonelab, GMJ & Matter, Draztec, Maxi Basshead & Harry Blotter, John Baptiste & Liam Sieker, Verve, Mark Henning, Closer Apart, Christopher Brooks, Somersault, Victor Y and Oblique Industries.

With the exception of a couple of tunes from our favourite Swedish Brazilian and brothers from across the ditch, it's the biggest compilation of Australian progressive, house and techno ever released and a worthy sequel to the classic original by Woodsman, released in 2010.

The full release will be available for pre-order on December 13 at beatport.com before the full release on December 29, but for now, we hope you enjoy Tonelab's The Little Rabbit as much as we do!

Tonelab is the music of Philip Rex, previously of Decoy, Rex'n'Chappo and IMPS. Philip started his musical life working in jazz clubs around Melbourne as a teenager, playing till 1am and then donning his school uniform early the next morning. This quickly blossomed into a professional career that has spanned decades and continents, as one of the most in-demand double bass players in Australia and beyond.

Throughout his teenage years Philip was also experimenting with synthesizers and drum machines, and this eventually led to the formation of Decoy, which sparked off a musical collaboration with Ian Chaplin that would last for 20 years. Together they have played at most major outdoor festivals in Australia and many across Europe, including Vuuv, Glade, Wonderland, Rainbow Serpent, Earthcore, Eclipse and Maitreya, and released albums and tracks on a host of labels throughout the world. 
 Tonelab draws on the experience of this long musical journey. Combining techno and house music with an unmistakable hint of outdoor psychedelia, Tonelab's all-original tunes display a passion for old analogue combined with modern digital instruments, and revel in a love of experimentation, improvisation, beautiful harmonic flavours and melodic textures, all underpinned by grooves that have clearly evolved from the soul of a bass player!   Tonelab’s debut EP was released on Open Records in February 2016, and generated very enthusiastic support from the likes of Kolsch, Cid Inc, Oliver Schories, Kassey Voorn, Darin Epsilon, Sebastian Markiewicz and dozens more. It climbed to no.5 on the Beatport Progressive House release chart, and to no.11 on the Techno release chart. 

Since then Tonelab has had releases on Traum Schallplatten, Evil Flow (the 2nd label of Phobos Records), Electric Power Pole Records, Clubsonica Records Wulpack and Shadow Wulf Records, and has been playing live at local parties with Doesn’t Matter and BIG:RED:BUS crews.

Open Records is a techno, house and electronica imprint based out of the sunny state of Queensland, Australia. Founded in the lush tropical paradise of Cairns in 2007 and now managed out of the bustling metropolis of Brisbane, Open has grown into a respected and prolific label with more than 70 releases from artists in all corners of the globe.

The Open sound is just that. Over the years we have released everything from deep, organic, progressive and tech house, to staunch minimal, hypnotic tribal, driving techno and abstract electronica. What has remained constant is our desire to represent the intelligent, groovy, dancefloor-oriented sound of the Australian festival and party culture, with a little help from our friends around the world, too.

Along the way we've managed to top the Beatport charts, featured in the playlists of some of the world's biggest DJs and radio shows and helped launch the career of some of Australia's most talented artists. Not bad for a crazy idea hatched in a small city in regional Australia! Big respect to everyone who has supported us on our journey, we wouldn't be where we are today without you.
