As we move deeper into the summer the show this month reflects on some of the more dancefloor aimed productions, keeping it underground but journeying through the variety of styles and sounds that can be currently heard on choicer floors.

Exploring a wealth of vinyl cuts showing off the varied nature of underground music in all its sonic beauty.

Our guests this month are Bon and Akiko Haruna who’ve collaborated on their first EP “First Sight” which drops on Bon Music Vision this month. An insight into the electronic world of Artificial Intelligence and Sci Fi music.

Solid Steel (28th February) Moresounds is our guest in Hour 1 this week, with a mix across the board opening with Canadian Library music, Prince Jammy and Madvillain, before delving into some of his own lost hip hop beats from yesteryear and even a track from a psych/rock band that he used to play with. Then it's onto some inspirations and music from friends including Om Unit with his excellent update of the classic Shadow Boxing, H-SIK, Fanu and the Moresounds remix of Machinedrum, finishing with a junglist hook and a respectful greeting to King Tubby."

Solid Steel Radio Show 28/2/2014 Part 1 + 2 - Moresounds

I worked at Groove Radio 103..1 in Los Angeles and we created some great programming and shows during the 95' - 97' run of the station. This was pre all of the EDM craze of today. The Future Sound of London did a RARE live concert for the Groove Radio audience from their studio in London England via the ISDN line. This was pre-DSL and before most of us even had email accounts. When you think about it we were quite cutting edge with both the music and technology of the time. Jeff K started out the interview while Christian B finished up the back end of the interview. (I even get a shout out) Thanks to Errol at Astralwerks for making this legendary event happen for the first time ever on the FM airwaves of America.

Under the moniker Throwing Snow, London based producer Ross Tones fuses dubstep, UK funky, house and post-rock that strike a balance between sun-kissed warmth and glacial coldness. A prolific music maker, he has produced a myriad of EPs and remixes on labels like Local Action, Ho Tep, Sneaker Social Club and his own Snowfall imprint, with the distinction of sharing studio time with Flying Lotus and Four Tet and two Boiler Room sets.

He is now lining up the next instalment in his club focused series. ‘Simmer/Subtitles’ is the second two tracker in a string of releases that will culminate on a special extended vinyl release this summer via Houndstooth. A prominent name in the underground, Snow is in his own lane making tunes for the soul and, in his exclusive Dummy Mix, he merges the worlds of his influences once again for an omnious hour of vibes.

"In this mix I wanted to touch on some tracks, new and old, that reference some of the same music that I have on my latest series of releases for Houndstooth." Snow told Dummy. "It's focused on broken drum rhythms and breaks from 170bpm to 125bpm with a dark edge."

Small open air events and smiling people enjoying the music brought the community back together. And these are some of the tracks that I always had on me when I went to play there. I wish that we all - club owners, promoters, Djs, sound engineers, club-goers and every other part of the scene - can soon go back to what we love. In the meantime, stay safe.
