“I tend to be a very nostalgic person but not with my music. Always looking ahead but never back. I thought in this new year, I'd bounce around from old to new to old... to new. My music has always been to soundtrack my commutes and travels, a way to get lost in the movements. Listen on your way to work, on your way home.”

A Far Blue concept by IT-XPO - 'look back, look forward'

An all-star selector who builds sets from the underground up, Chaz is a deep digger, classy collector and all-round purveyor of rare finds and classic tracks from the bygone eras of house, techno, trance, electro and iterations in-between. Having played host to international artists including Kabuto and Mark/Klon Dump under the Syrup Records banner, Chaz is well acquainted with throwing a damn good party. In more recent times, Techworld (run alongside @sandpit_alias) has risen like a technicolour phoenix from the ashes of lockdown to cult-like status. As the scene’s taste for faster tempos grows and accelerates, Techworld offers monthly reprieve from the chaos by taking us back to basics. Good records, long sets, a rotating roster of the country’s finest DJs and a custom ENM Research mixer coalesce (with a few blue drinks) once a month at miscellanea to give us 18 hours of unadulterated afterhours hedonism. Chaz joined me live in the PBS studio for Passing Notes episode 187, but here we are lucky to hear a 1 hour guest mix recorded live at Techworld.

For over a decade @priebe has been carving his own space within Berlin’s underground house scene. Romantic, hazy, and melancholic, Priebe’s music is based on imagination and journey, romanticising things we all take for granted, such as nights out or walks through shopping malls.

Movements In An Empty Department Store is just that. An imaginary soundtrack for a night alone in a department store. Inspired by the fantasy of freely frolicking through abandoned isles and vacant storefronts, his inaugural album on Stólar is a surreal symphony of dream-like pads, echoey synth leads, and striped-back pulsing beats.

This follows a similar concept to that of his previous work. Released in 2022 on Chris Gruber and Tim Eder’s @feuilletonmusic, Apparent Calm Palms was Priebe’s interpretation of the journey from a small village to a rave in a neighbouring city.

Overall, Priebe creates a captivating melange of nostalgia and unfamiliarity in his music. It’s deep house, but not in the way we know it conventionally.

His imprint Stólar, through which he has released the majority of his catalogue, has a knack for recruiting label bosses and has seen the likes of @rdv-music lead @molly_music, and the previously mentioned Tim Eder & Fossar. grace its well-curated halls of obscure, exploratory house music.

Mixing deep, melodic, and minimal house music - with traces of dub techno here and there for effect - Priebe provides a groovy, atmospheric 4/4 focused mix that carries you through alternate sonic spaces.

Øyvind’s everything-but-not-anything vibe is the one. Be it a 6 hour dance floor trip, or as is the case here an hour’s peak, his selections take all the right turns. Like an unhinged sommelier, you won’t know what’s coming next but whatever it is you won’t find it on the menu. A Bowie edit, obscure house-ish stuff, 80’s dance pop, breaks and loads more ahead. @oyvind-morken

Shelter is one of the best nightclubs in Amsterdam, a forward-thinking city where nightlife is embraced as part of its cultural tapestry. There’s not much more to the space than a dark, subterranean room with killer sound, but its simplicity is part of its charm for both the dancers on the floor, and the stars that grace the decks.
